Last October, at 2:15, on an early Saturday morning, a local man, his girlfriend, and her daughter were arrested, following a traffic stop for no license plate by Monticello Police, near HWY 425 & Barkada Road. All three occupants were charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).
The man and woman plead guilty to their Possession of a Controlled Substance and Drug paraphernalia charges Thursday morning in Drew County Circuit Court. Both were wanted by authorities on warrants at the time of their arrest.
Recently, the Drew County Sheriff’s Office received report of check fraud of a Drew County woman.
The victim brought a copy of a check that was written to a Little Rock business. The check was identified as being a fraudulent check which had the victim’s bank routing number and account number on the bottom of the check.
Shown here is a Drew County Sheriff’s patrol car, which was damaged when a tree fell in it.

MLive has had multiple phone calls about the “old” Publisher’s Clearing House Scam resurfacing in Monticello, again.
Over the last two weeks, several local residents have received phone calls, where they were told to buy a certain cash card, or make a wire payment, in exchange for their “winning check” to be processed and delivered to them.
Please be aware that this is a scam, and don’t waste you time (or your money) with these calls.
Monticello Police are searching for Chevy Z71 truck that was stolen Saturday night.
The truck reportedly has a black hood, red cab, and gray bed assembly.
The truck also has a Superman logo on the tailgate.
If seen contact the Metropolis Police Dept, or MPD at 367-3411.

UPDATE – (more…)
In an effort to ensure the safety of its students while buses are loading or unloading, the Monticello School District would like to make sure laws regarding passing of school buses are available to area citizens.
We are working with the Monticello Police Department and Drew County Sherriff Department to curb violations. Both departments have assured us of their support. They will be making special efforts to observe violators of this law. Below you will see the School Bus Fleet Magazine report on deaths that occurred 2011 – 2012 due to illegal passing of school buses. Laws as they pertain to a violator or the school bus driver are also listed below.
One of our most troubled areas is Hwy. 425. Oncoming traffic is not required to stop on multilane highways that are divided by a parkway or dividing strip of 20 ft. or more. This does not pertain to any area in Drew County. All oncoming traffic should stop as well as traffic following the bus!
While everyone else was celebrating Christmas day, our local First Responders were at work, serving the community, like they do every other day of the year.

MPD dispatched a Drew County Sheriff’s Deputy to a truck accident, Christmas Day. No one was reportedly injured.
During Saturday morning’s “Shop with a Cop” sponsored by Walmart, Monticello Police officers took 23 children and teenagers shopping at Walmart, with $100 to spend on each one of them.
The officer that was with one 10 year old boy asked him, “Where do you want to start.” Most kids would answer toys or games, but this child’s reply was, “I want to buy my Mommy something for Christmas.” He wanted to buy her jewelry, so they went to that department and picked out a ring for her.
Next the officer asked him, “What do you want to get now.” His reply was, “I want to buy me something to wear for Christmas,” so off the clothes they went.
A Wilmar man was arrested Wednesday, after he threatened to kill everyone at a local residense . A witness reported to police that the man had a black and chrome pistol when he made the threats.
Drew County Sheriff’s Deputies soon located the suspect, and while sheriff’s deputies where searching him, he dropped a small black and chrome handgun.
The last of the three Saline County youths accused of the attempted capital murder and aggravated robbery of a Drew County man came to an end, Wednesday morning, when he accepted a plea bargain to spend 30 years in the Arkanas Dept. of Correction (plus 10 years suspended sentence).
In March, the three suspects stole an elderly Drew County man’s truck and gun, before stabbing him and leaving him severly bleeding on a county road, A multi-agency manhunt quickly followed, which included a pack of search dogs from ADC and a helicopter from the Arkansas State Police.
Officers from the UAM arrested a professor of mathematics on October 30, charging him with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and threatening an officer.
