A residence on Texas Street had their weekly trash waiting by the road, Tuesday morning.
The containers, however, were marked at “BIO-HAZARD”.
Although it appears to be a simple case of re-using boxes, it wasn’t the best choice of boxes to choose to put your trash in. Not to mention, they’re not the approved city containers.
A local 37 year old man was arrested by the Drew County Sheriff Dept. for the alleged rape of a local teenager and the sexual assault of another.
Around 7 pm, Tuesday, an eastbound white Chevy Silverado reportedly pulled out in front of a northbound white Chevy Silverado, causing an auto accident.
The eastbound truck had the stop sign.
A passenger in the northbound Silverado was transported to Drew Memorial by SEEMS.
The driver in the eastbound Silverado was transported to the County Detention Facility for a BAC test, as aluminum cans were seen strewn alongside the vehicle at the crash scene.
MPD worked the wreck. Reliable Towing removed the northbound vehicle.
The City of Monticello has re-opened the composting facility and is accepting all yard waste.
The material must be taken to the Transfer Station at 1466 Old Warren Road and checked in with the supervisor before dumping.
Items of a large diameter cannot be accepted such as stumps or large limbs.
The hours of operation will be Monday thru Friday from 7 am until 4 pm and the first and third Saturday from 8 am until 4 pm.
This Toyota Sequoia was riddled with gun fire while parked in front of a Monticello home, with the driver reportedly inside the vehicle.
Sunday evening around 8:30, a Yamaha Rhino 450 overturned on Carpenter Road, ejecting the driver.
The vehicle was northbound at the time of the accident. The driver was transported to Drew Memorial, and was expected by be transferred to Little Rock.
Arkansas State Troopers worked the crash scene, assisted by Drew County Sheriff’s Deputies.
A strong wind led to a temporary road closing on HWY 172, around 11 am Sunday morning, after this large tree fell across the roadway.

The Drew HEALTH Coalition hosted an injury prevention event at the Boys and Girls Club, Friday.
Steven Stone, the County Extension Agent from Lincoln County, spoke to the students about ATV Safety followed by an ATV Safety video. There were around 50 students present, and 2 were able to take home ATV helmets that were donated by Lumberjack Yamaha in Warren.
The Drew HEALTH Coalition would like to thank Mr. Stone for educating the children on ATV Safety and the Boys and Girls Club for allowing us to partner with them for this event.
This photo, taken east of Monticello, show an old wooden bridge, that is still in use.. Now, that’s country.
The bridge is a private drive or a farm access road, near a paved highway. It’s not on a county road.
The Monticello Fire Dept. responded to the report of a structure fire on Bowser Road, around 3 pm, Thursday afternoon.
The shed seems to be a total loss.

Jaxon M. Rawls is celebrating his fifth birthday on Sunday, July 07.
He is the son of Jeff and Jamie Rawls of Monticello and the big brother of Ace Rawls. Jaxon is the grandson of David and Cindy Rawls and Jim and Julie West all of Monticello.
He is the great-grandson of Katherleen Rawls and J.D. and Sandra West, the late Curley Rawls, the late James Benjamin (J.B.) Smith, the late Lucy Brown all of Monticello and the late Betty Travis of Warren.

For as long as most folks remember, the intersection of HWY 425 and 278 has always been home to the “Monticello Flag.”
Many are used to seeing it, but don’t realize how often the flags must be repaired and replaced.
The flags, usually 4 at a time, are purchased with donations made by Commercial Bank, Union Bank, Simmons Bank, Parkway Bank, and Maxwell Hardwood Flooring.
Thanks to those donations, “the Flag” still flies above Monticello for all travelers to see.
This lighted flag display is one of the many patriotic displays that residents use to celebrate our country’s birthday.
The Monticello Fire Dept. was paged out to a fire at the building next to Piggly Wiggly, Thursday morning, around 4:30.
The building has been a home to many local business, from a barber and beauty shop, to a bookstore, and recently as a store for bargains and bows.
Major damage was done to the back of the structure.
At last week’s City Council meeting, someone asked about a “sample pipe section” that was on display.
