Connect Arkansas, a project of Arkansas Capital Corporation, announced the donation of 28 Internet-ready computers to families who completed the Computers 4 Kids program held at the UAMonticello Science Center.
No one was injured, Tuesday morning, when the driver of this City of Monticello work truck left the roadway, dumping a large portion of the load the truck was carrying into the ditch and driveway of SeaArk Marine.
City crews worked to re-open Trotter Street near the entrance to the City Shop.

As the year 2013 winds down, I believe anticipation of the 2014 fiscal session is emerging at the Capitol. Although this was a relatively slow week at the legislature, many discussions were brought deviously close to revelations about budget proposals that will soon be forthcoming at budget hearings.
The Auxiliary uses the funds to purchase items for the local hospital, such as the recent purchase of blood pressure equipment and entrance room furniture.
The University of Arkansas at Monticello football team could not overcome five first-half turnovers, including interceptions on the first three offensive drives, resulting in a 37-21 loss to No. 4 Henderson State at home on Saturday night in the final home game of the 2013 season.

The Salvation Army yearly Kettle drive is responsible for the largest part of the funding it receives for helping the community every year. If you or your group would like to assist by ringing the bell, contact Justin Miller at: (870) 460-5460.
The Drew County Salvation Army will also be suspending new applications for utility assistance for the remainder of the year in order to dedicate it’s time towards the kettle drive. Applications for assistance will resume again next year.
Samantha is in ICU at ACH in critical care due to a brain AVM disorder.
All donations will be used to assist the family with medical expenses.
Samantha is the 16 year old daughter of Allen & Brenda Chavis and Susan Langston.

With time running out in the final quarter, Dumas kicked a field goal to tie the game at 17-17.
The Bobcats got the ball first on the 10 yard line, but failed to score on three downs. The field goal attempt hit the upright and bounced to the ground.
The Billies then got the ball on the 10, followed by a touchdown run by Justin Berry, and the extra point that brought the game to a close.

“Old Friends Need a New Home”
The Monticello Branch Library is in the process of updating its book collection in preparation for the move to the new library building in the spring. The old and seldom circulated books need new homes.

Last week was one of the busiest ones I have had since I took office. After our regular early morning meeting at the road department Monday, I attended the quarterly meeting of the Southeast Arkansas Regional Library Board. At noon, I attended the regular monthly meeting of the Drew Memorial Hospital finance committee, and that evening, we had our quorum court meeting. I thought it went very well, and that the court made some good decisions that will help the county in the future.
Warren Arkansas Speedway ended it’s second season with an awards banquet for the points champions
The 2013 Stinger I Champion was Aaron Hood, from Monticello. Hood took the lead early in the season winning the first three races. He received a 5ft tall trophy and a jacket with the track logo.
L.C. “Chad” Russell also from Monticello took second place in the Stinger class, he received a 4ft trophy and a t-shirt. Russell is Hood’s grandpa, these two drivers put on a good race every week, where occasionally Russell was able to beat Hood and take first place for the night.
First year driver, 12 year old, Jamie Martin, from Monticello took second place in the Stinger class. Clayton Copeland, Monticello, was also a second place point champion, in the cruiser class. Both received a 4ft trophy and t-shirt with the track logo. Read the rest of this entry »
