Tear in Pool Liner Tops Parks Agenda – $100,000+ ?

imageThe city park committee met last week, and discussed several items, including the details of the tear in the liner of the city pool.

The tear is believed to have been caused by water from the fill-lines leaking behind the liner.

The estimated cost of the repairs is not know, but similar repairs cost $268,000 in 2007.  Although the liner’s warranty is pro-rated, it has been several years since it was installed.

3rd Graders First Deer

IMG_8013Evan Bealer, a 3rd grader at MES, killed this button buck in Wilmar at his family deer camp while hunting with his dad.

He killed the deer with a Winchester 270 Short Magnum at 4:15 pm on Sunday.

MHS Students Make 2014-15 SEArk All-Region Choir

imageMonticello High School choir had 26 students who competed and won chairs at the Southeast Arkansas Jr. and Sr. High All-Region contest on Saturday,October 18 and 25. MHS Sr. choir had 16 students to make all-region. and 12 to qualify for STATE competition. MHS 9th grade had all 10 choir students to make the Jr.High All-Region choir. We congratulate this awesome group of talented students on their outstanding achievement. The SEARK ALL-REGION CONCERT for both JR. & SR choirs will be at Drew Central H.S. in the Earl Willis Auditorium on November 15, at 6:00 p.m. Thanks for your support!

Family Dollar Opening Expected around January

imageLocal folks have been watching the construction of Family Dollar, a nationwide retail chain, and the ongoing construction of their new facility, near the 425/278 intersection, for several month.

One of this week’s projects is caulking between the concrete parking lot sections.

The latest estimate is that new store will be open for business around the first of 2015.

Adair Crowned Miss Buck Fever

imageCaroline Adair was crowned 2014 Miss Buck Fever at this Saturday during the annual Buck Fever Festival in Banks.

Caroline is the 16 year old daughter of Dale & Misty Jones and William Adair of Monticello.

She was crowned by Kelsey Windham, pictured left, 2013 Miss Buck Fever.
