The May meeting of the Desha/Drew Cattlemen’s Association was called to order on May 19, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. at the UAM Agricultural Center in Monticello, Arkansas by President Jason Cater.
The boys of Cub Pack 69 recently held a Pack Overnight campout at Cane Creek State Park.
The day began with the young men cleaning a mile stretch of highway leading to the state park for the Great American Clean-Up. The boys were treated to lunch by the park and were awarded prizes for their effort.
They continued to practice knot tying, learned to set camp and cooked parts of their own meals, including potatoes in foil and omelets in a bag. While the weather made it unable to canoe and kayak, the boys enjoyed fishing and bike riding throughout the afternoon.
Boys that participated in this spring’s camp included Webelos Joey Holland, Caleb Whitehurst, Noah Minchew and Cole Nash, Bear Scouts Kenneth Bragg, Mikey Mingo, A’Quan Tyler and McClain Wilson and Wolf Scout Nathan Meeks.
If you have a son who will be in Grades 1-5 for the 2011-2012 school year and is interested in scouting please contact Hope Bragg.

He brought replica weapons for the boys to see, and dressed two lucky men up as soldiers from the wars (Beau Kuttenkuler was a Spanish officer and Joey Holland was a Union soldier). The boys were learning about the history of conflict in Arkansas as part of Arkansas Archeology month.
Pictured is Webelo Scout Joey Holland, dressed as a Union soldier, and Joe Herron speaking to the pack about the differences between a Match-lock and Flint-lock.
