Theft of county signs is punishable by a fine of up to $1,000. Anyone having knowledge of stolen signs is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 367-6211.

I’d like to start this week by reminding everyone that theft of county road signs is a very serious issue, more so than you might realize. Here’s why: Suppose an ambulance crew gets dispatched as the result of a 911 call about an apparent heart attack. The victim, who might be your mom, dad or grandparent, lives in a rural area of the county and the sign marking the road has been stolen. As a result, the ambulance crew has a hard time finding the house, wasting precious minutes. Maybe the victim dies because he didn’t get medical attention soon enough. If you are found to be in possession of that stolen road sign, the county could attempt to pursue charges against you for involuntary manslaughter. Theft of county road signs is punishable by fines of up to $1,000, and we do investigate these matters. If you have any information about stolen road signs, please contact the sheriff’s office at 367-6211.
