Minutes before midnight, Thursday night, Monticello Police dispatch received a 911 call reporting an armed robbery at the EZ Mart on Highway 425 South.
Beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday August 1, 2015, and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday August 2, 2015, the State of Arkansas will hold its sales tax holiday allowing shoppers the opportunity to purchase certain School Supplies, School Art Supplies, School Instructional Materials, and clothing free of state and local sales or use tax.
All retailers are required to participate and may not charge tax on items that are legally tax-exempt during the Sales Tax Holiday.
The 2015 Drew County Log-A-Load for Kids will be held August 1 in UAM’s John F. Gibson University Center. The annual event raises funds for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
In 2014, Drew County raised $100,000 for ACH.
Tickets for the fish fry, silent and live auctions and raffle are $20 at the door.

Judge Bruce Anderson announced his intention to seek election as District Judge for Bradley and Drew Counties in the 2016 election to be held March 1. He has served 10 years as a Bradley District Judge. In 2014 the Arkansas Legislature changed the District Judgeship to a full time position.

Nick Provencher, former instructor of Political Science at the UAMonticello, has been hired as Assistant to the Mayor for the City of Monticello.
A well-needed, somewhat-heated discussion developed, Tuesday night, from a boring topic, dealing with water meter deposits for multi-unit complexes.
The long-time question of home/businesses getting commercial bills was brought up by councilman Joe Meeds, and will get studied and clarified in the near future.

Southeast Arkansas TEA Party will be hosting Patriot Camp III beginning at the end of the 1812 War all the way through to the Alamo. Children, ages 4 years old and up, will make crafts, enjoy snacks and play games relating to America at that time.
