Fair Week Schedule

fairThe 71st Annual Drew County Fair will be September 22nd through the 27th. The theme this year is “Proud of the past, Ready for the future.”

The 71st Annual Drew County Fair will start Monday, September 22nd, and the final festivities are on Saturday, September 27th.

Admission for the fair will be $2 for anyone ages 2 and up. (No gate fee Monday 22nd)

Monday 22nd
Home Economics Division individual entries and Horticulture and Field Crop entries will be from 1-6 pm.

Tuesday 23rd
5 pm: Parade at town square. (For more information, call Brenda Reed, Parade Chairman, at 367-6031 or 723-6740.)
Livestock and poultry entry begins.
Extension building opens to public.
6-10 pm. “Sneak a Peak”

MGSAMGSA (Monticello Girls Softball Association) will hold its annual meeting September 29th at Pauline Baptist Church at 6pm. Anyone that has any interest in the league is encouraged to attend.

Legislative Report

Greetings! We’ve had another issue-laden week at the Legislature.

Last week the joint education committees briefly discussed options for raising the minimum starting teacher salary in Arkansas public schools to $31,000. Figures of $2.35 to $6.86 million were the cost estimates given by the Bureau of Legislative Research (BLR). (The minimum starting salary for new teachers with a bachelor’s degree and no experience is currently $29, 244.)

The Monticello Church of Christ at 631 S. Gabbert is hosting a Gospel Meeting, beginning Sunday morning, September 28, and running through Wednesday evening, October 1. Our speaker is Ken Bolden, from the Church of Christ in Sheridan.

Sunday Bible class begins at 9:45, worship at 10:50, and evening worship begins at 6:00. Monday through Wednesday worship begins at 7:00.
Please come and worship with us as we study the real meaning of the wonderful sacrifice of Jesus Christ!

AG&F Returns $28,000 in Fine $ to Drew County (Hightest Total in State)

AGFWhen the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission collects fines from game law convictions, the money goes back to the county where it was collected. During Thursday’s monthly Commission meeting, the agency approved a grant of more than $679,100 to the Arkansas Department of Education as a result of fines collected during the 2014 fiscal year.
