Roxie Davis

Roxie Davis was born to the late Roosevelt and Ruby Green on 04/26/1943 in Rye, Arkansas. She departed this life Sunday January 18, 2015 at Drew Memorial Hospital.

She married Artis Davis Jr. at an early age, and to this union seven children were born. She leaves to cherish her memories three sons Artis Davis Jr. and Kelvin Davis of Wilmar, and Frederick Davis of Atlanta, GA. Two daughters Sharon Davis Pitts of San Antonio, TX and Marcella Davis of Wilmar. Roxie is survived by three sisters, three brothers, 10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a devoted friend and caregiver, Julius Sanders. Preceding her in death were two children Malcolm Davis, and Melvin Davis. Services will be Saturday, January 24, 2015 @11:00am at Mt. That humble, kind, generous, loving man was Tommy Matthews. Many of you will remember him as the principal of W. C. Whaley Elementary School on North Main for 23 years.

Council Makes Economic Development Contract “Professional Service” – Selects MEDC to Continue During Interim

In a special called meeting Wednesday evening, January 7, the Monticello City Council passed a resolution to reject the bids submitted for economic development services on November 21, 2014; to declare economic development services as professional services; to authorize the publication of requests for qualifications for economic development; and to extend the current “contract” with Monticello Economic Development Commission to February 28.

Council Approves Mediation with Siemens

The City Council held a special called meeting 6 pm, Wednesday, January 7, for a vote to authorize special legal council to pursue mediation with Siemens, Inc., in order to dissolve the City’s contract with the company and to recover from Siemens damages and the City’s $7 million dollar financial investment in the water rehabilitation project.
