NOTICE OP HEARING
Pursuant to its supervisory authority over Arkansas burial associations, Ark. Code Ann. 5 23-7S-109, and its statutory authority to conduct hearings and revoke licenses and authorities. Ark. Code. Sec. 23-78-124, the Arkansas Burial Association Board (the Board) has determined that it will conduct a hearing on its own coniplaint against Linda Shepherd, Secrctary-Treasurer of the Drew County Burial Association
(Respondent Shepherd ), and Joseph Caveness, President of the Drew County Burial Association (“despondent Caveness ). Respondent Shepherd and Respondent Caveness are hereafter referred to collectively as the “Respondents.

Appropriate Present for a Vetetan

imageRecently, for his 91st birthday, WWII Veteran P.Q. Gardner received from his nephew, Larry Gardner, a Quilt of Valor.

Quilted by members of the Quilt of Valor Foundation, including Larry’s wife, Teddy, the quilt will be registered with the Foundation. These specially-made quilts are given to veterans and are a way of saying “Thank you for your service, sacrifice, and valor in serving our nation.”

Dabney Appointed to Airport Commission

imageGlen Dabney, of Eagle Forestry Service, has been appointed to the airport commission, replacing Charles Savage.

The decision is expected to be approved by the City Council, next week.


Roxie Davis

Roxie Davis was born to the late Roosevelt and Ruby Green on 04/26/1943 in Rye, Arkansas. She departed this life Sunday January 18, 2015 at Drew Memorial Hospital.

She married Artis Davis Jr. at an early age, and to this union seven children were born. She leaves to cherish her memories three sons Artis Davis Jr. and Kelvin Davis of Wilmar, and Frederick Davis of Atlanta, GA. Two daughters Sharon Davis Pitts of San Antonio, TX and Marcella Davis of Wilmar. Roxie is survived by three sisters, three brothers, 10 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a devoted friend and caregiver, Julius Sanders. Preceding her in death were two children Malcolm Davis, and Melvin Davis. Services will be Saturday, January 24, 2015 @11:00am at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church Wilmar, Arkansas.Under the direction of Christian Brothers Funeral Home 738 East Oakland Street 870-367-6441″Our Family Caring For Yours”

That humble, kind, generous, loving man was Tommy Matthews. Many of you will remember him as the principal of W. C. Whaley Elementary School on North Main for 23 years.
