School Board Implementing “Emergency Action Planned for Athletics”

The life-threatening incident at Watson Chapel, where 4 nurses out of the Monticello bleachers saved a junior high football player at the WC scrimmage game, has drawing attention to the possibility of similar incidents occurring.

At Tuesday night’s at Monticello school board meeting, the board discussed their “emergency action plan for athletics,”  which covers all sports included in the district athletic program.

Pee-wee Football Underway

MYFL football action began last Monday, has the Deadbolts (Reggie’s Lock & Keys) outscored the MonticelloLive Titans by a score of 38–15, and the Paul Griffin Shelter Insurance edged by SEEMS Traumahawks, with a final score of 28–26.

The MYFL tackle teams travel to Hamburg this afternoon for their weekly games; other flag league games are taking place this afternoon at Hyatt field.

Following the July 1 death of 21-year-old Carla Avery on HWY 278, in the area best known as “Dead Man’s Curve”, a local Sunday School class decided something should be done to correct the deadly portion of roadway.

Man Sentenced to Prison for Enrolling at UAM (Using his Jailed Son’s ID Card) &: Pocketing $6,000 – UPDATE

41-year-old Jerome Terry told Circuit Judge Bynum Gibson he enrolled as a college student in UAM’s hospitality program (using his son’s identity) so that when his son, Jarell Terry, was released from prison, he would have a college education.

As a courtesy to area firefighters, Authorities are asking anyone planning a “controlled burn ” to notify the Monticello Police at 367-3411, Sheriff’s Dept at 367-6211, and/ or Forestry Commission at 367-2050; so that when those fires are reported by members of the public, authorities will know that they are planned “control burns.”


MHS’s Amber Hairston Named National ACTE Award Finalist

The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) announces Amber Hairston, a Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) teacher at Monticello High School in Monticello, Arkansas, as the 2014 ACTE Region IV New Teacher of the Year. The ACTE New Teacher of the Year award recognizes CTE teachers with 3-5 years’ experience (at the secondary or postsecondary level) who have made significant contributions toward innovative and unique career and technical education programs and shown a professional commitment early in their careers.
