Sis. Shirley Theus Hudspeth was born September 3, 1955;to the late Bro.Luther and Velma (Rawls) Theus in Salt Lake City,Utah. One brother, Sherman Theus and a set of twin proceeded her in death. At the young of 9 years old, the family moved to Wilmar, Arkansas.
She was united in marriage to Lloyd Edward Hudspeth and to this union two children was born.
She attended Wilmar High School where she graduated in 1973.
She confessed Christ at an early age in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. O.H. Harding.
She worked at Burlington Industrial for 10 years and later Bradley County Hospital and Area Agency until her health began to fail.She loved to fish,cook,shop, and spend time with her children,grandchildren and friends. She was a very special person and if you were ever around her you never forget her smile.
She leaves to cherish her memories, one son;Vernon Wendall Hudspeth, Monticello, Arkansas;one one daughter Lontillda Shanise Hudspeth of Little Rock, Ar. Two special granddaughters, Chantelle, and Shylamonte George of Little Rock, Arkansas.Three brothers;Eddie James Rawls of Spannaway; WA Bobby Theus, of Lake Village Arkansas;Johnny Theus, of Atlanta,Georgia.Very special friends Clarance Daniels,Dirk Parham,Valerie and Evanglina Carr. A host of nepews, neices, cousins,and friends.
Services are Saturday, January 25th @ Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church.Services entrusted to Christian Brothers of Monticello, Arkansas.
Mrs. Marilyn Lou Grantier, 69 of Monticello, AR, died Monday, January 20, 2014 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, AR. She was a native of Hot Springs, AR and a resident of Monticello for the past 15 years. She was a homemaker and was of the Assembly of God faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest “Amos” and Wonda Edwards Standiford, She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, John Grantier, one son, Johnathan Grantier of Monticello, AR, two daughters, Chell Lenz of Hermitage, TN & Shannon Grantier of Monticello, AR, three sisters, Earnestine Ware, husband Travis of Pearcy, AR, Betty Sroope of Hot Springs, AR, Carolyn Harrison, husband Dale of Bella Vista, AR, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members and friends.
Memorial services are Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 2:30 pm at Cromwell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Donald Manning, officiating. Guestbook signing at www.cromwellfuneralhome.net

Recently, 11 MHS forensics team members competed at the Cabot Classic Forensics Tournament where there were approximately 1,000 total entries.
Becca Stephenson advanced to finals and earned 3rd Place in Prose Interpretation. Salonica Hunter earned a finalist medal in Storytelling. Stephenson also advanced to semi-finals in Poetry Interpretation.

4 break-ins have recently been reported in Drew County, with a wide range of items being taken.
An 18-wheeler, loaded with ground rubber, overturned in Dead Man’s Curve around 11:30 Monday morning.
Local fire departments were busy Saturday, since the pleasant weather encouraged many people to do yardwork.
However windy conditions across the county caused 7 of these grass fires to grow out of control, with several of them reaching wooded areas.
Most of the fires were in the Monticello area, but others ranged from Collins to Lacey.

A circuit court lawsuit will determine the outcome of a case between Union Bank and 11 of its former shareholders, who were forced out by a corporate buyout action.
The defendants is the case include John Porter Price, Virgil Trotter, William Yates Trotter, Patricia Trotter Kirkland, Deborah Jackson Thornhill, Jimmie Jo Jackson Leech, Charles E. Jackson Jr., Lucy Jackson Cyphers, Ruth C. Moffatt, and William R. Daniels, Marsha Moffatt Daniels.
Bryant Childs, the driver of the asphalt truck involved in the October 29, 2012 death of Elizabeth Ann Davis at the Wilmar train crossing, was found guilty of negligent homicide and five counts of 2nd degree assault by a Drew County jury in November.
The jury was unable to agree on the sentence, so that decision fell on Judge Bynum Gibson.
A Monticello man was stabbed multiple times, and assaulted with several household “weapons” recently, after he tried to separate a man and the girlfriend that he as allegedly fighting with.
The victim received a life-changing beating, and the suspect’s charges now include Attempted Capital Murder.
A recent list of nuisance properties, as reported and maintaned by the city property inspector, included a city property.

An arrest warrant has been issued by the Chicot County Circuit Court for
a 23 year old Monticello man, for residential burglary and theft of property.
The warrant was issued in connection with the burglary of a house on West
Daniels Street in Dermott on the morning of January 8. A quantity of
firearms and electronics were stolen from the residence.

Tonya K. Loveless of Monticello has announced her candidacy for re-election to the office of Drew County Tax Collector in the upcoming Democratic primary election.
