Monticello’s second power pole was broken into two pieces by a vehicle this week, when a Chevy Uplander left the highway on HWY 278 East, near Carpenter Road, hitting a mailbox, becoming airborn while crossing a driveway, striking the power pole, and then landing on top of the bottom section of the pole, around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Electricity to the area east of the wreck was off for a couple of hours, whle Entergy replaced the pole
The man declined medical attention, at the scene.
There was a wrecker located conveniently nearby. It was Tommy Deshaizer’s mailbox that the Chevy ran over.

The Arkansas National Guard held its reintegration training program at UAM Saturday, in an effort to ease the transition of its returning Soldiers back into civilian life. The program is designed for the 3,000 Soldiers who recently returned from Iraq with the 39th Brigade and will provide them information about resources and services available to them and their Families.
“The goal is to make military members and their Families aware of all the benefits available to them since they have come back home,” said Lt. Col. Cary Shillcutt with the Arkansas National Guard. “The Reintegration Program is a federally mandated congressional program, but of course, we want to do this for our Soldiers.” Read the rest of this entry »

The Monticello Fire Dept. responded to the report of a house fire on Midway Route, just past the radio station, Saturday morning, just past 11:30.
The fire was contained to a small area inside of a bedroom, except for the smoke.
Witnesses at the scene credit the man who found the fire with closing the door to keep fresh air out of the room for keeping the fire from growing and spreading.
The fire was quickly extinguished, and the crew left the scene, and the trucks were back at the scene in under an hour.
