Unusual Place for Big Rig to Be Stuck in Mud & Gravel

IMG_4421Friday, around 4:30 PM, the driver of this 18 wheeler was traveling east on Highway 35, near Rash Cemetery, when he needed to turn around, after his last stop.

The road around the cemetery, where he was attempting to turn around, had recently been re-graveled, and due to the rain, his plan did not go as expected.

Drew County deputies responded, as well as a large tow truck. No one was injured.

UAM Debate Team Places at National Tournament

The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) Debate Team traveled to Boise, Idaho, for the 2023 International Public Debate Association (IPDA) national tournament on March 23-25 and left with three significant awards. (more…)

Travel Club Meeting Tuesday April 25th

TravelClub1The Travel Club will be touring Auschwitz, Birkenau, Budapest, Berlin, Prague, Dresden, and Krakow a total of 5 countries.  Come to the meeting on Tuesday, April 25 at 5:30 pm in room 403 at Drew Central Elementary.  The tour is 10 days March 15-24, 2025. Travelers get $200 off if you enroll by April 30th. Students from any district, home school, and family are eligible to travel.
Highlights are: Prague visit Mala Strana, the Lennon Wall, St. Vitus Cathedral, and 13th century old towne square; Dresden take a guided tour of the city, Krakow tour the Wawel Cathedral, Glowny Square, concentration camps Auschwitz and Birkenau for a remembrance; Budapest take an expert-led tour to Matthias Church, and Fisherman’s Bastion; Berlin visit Checkpoint Charlie, Brandenburg Gate, and see the largest piece of the Berlin Wall still standing.

On Tuesday, the memory of Dorothy Shepherd was honored through the presentation of an Agriculture Scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s College of Forestry, Agriculture and Natural Resources. The scholarship was awarded to Weston Cater of Monticello by Dean Michael Blazier. (more…)

IMG_4333At 10:50, a.m., Thursday, the driver of this heavy duty Dodge truck lost control of his vehicle on Highway 83, north of Monticello, just a short distance from the HWY 277, Coleman Store intersection.

Monticello Fire/Rescue, MASI and Drew County deputies responded.

Rods Wrecker removed the Dodge.

The driver declined further medical treatment.
