The CASA10 program, a non-profit organization, is seeking an Executive Director. The ideal candidate has non-profit experience with specific knowledge of grant writing, public speaking, recruiting and retaining of volunteers as well as a minimum of three years experience in financial and administrative or management experience. Candidates should demonstrate strong skills in fiscal management, grant writing, strategic planning, fundraising, organizational accounting and public relations. Previous experience with child abuse and neglect cases, families in crisis, or other social service skills are preferred.

Saturday night, the annual Drew County Fair “Miss Drew County” pageant was held at the fairgrounds, with Anna Norris was honored as this year’s Miss Drew County.  Anna also won the interview competition.

The week of September 8-14, 2013 is National Direct Support Professional’s week. Governor Beebe signed a proclamation declaring Arkansas’s recognition of Direct Support Professional’s in Arkansas.

A Direct Support Professional is the primary support of individuals who have special needs. These professionals provide a broad range of services, including preparation of meals, help with medications, personal hygiene, mobility, transportation, money management and instruction in daily life skills.

The Drew County Ministerial Alliance will host a Prayer Rally and Remembrance Service at the Drew County Courthouse Wednesday, Sept 11th at noon and the public is encouraged to attend.

Friday morning, the Wilmar Mayor and Aldermen met with project engineers to officially open two new bridges.

Dense fog is covering Drew County like a thick blanket, this morning.

Please give yourself some extra driving time for safety.

According to Judge Robert Akin, Bordeaux Road, which runs between HWYs 278 and 35, approximately 2 miles east of Monticello (Dead Man’s Curve area) will be permanently closed, today, by the Arkansas Highway Dept., due to the construction of the I-69 bypass.

Around 12:45, Sunday afternoon, this AirEvac LifeTeam rescue helicopter landed on HWY 425 South at Beulah Road, to pick up a 55 year old Monticello man, following a 4-wheeler accident on a pond levee.

This Vietnam era Huey military helicopter landed at Ellis Field, Friday morning, around 11 am.

The chopper had seen military action overseas, before recently being refurbished in Arizona.

The Huey is one of at least 7 that are being transferred to Florida, where they will be re-sold, possible back to another governmental agency, for use scouting fires or other events in the US, or flown back overseas.

The industrial “spec” speculative building, which was built as a qualification for the state’s ACE program, seems to have a local industry that will likely use the structure as part of a long term lease, for warehouse space.

Drew Central Band is holding a fundraiser called “Cans For Band”. There will be drop off locations at the Drew Central home games. Please bring your recyclable cans to help out the Drew Central Band.
