Union Bank Issues Statement about False Credit/Debit Card Phone Calls

Union Bank has been made aware that the following phone calls has been received by numerous people. “Your Visa/Debit card has been deactivated, Press 1” then it wants you to enter your card information.
Union Bank is not making these calls. So please, never give out any personal information to anyone you do not know. If you have given your information out, please contact your bank to delete your card and have a new one issued.
This scam has been taking place at multiple banks in Warren, but may affect customers of any bank in teh Sougheast Arkansas ares.
If you have any questions, there should be a contact number on the back of your credit or debit card .
Dearman Appointed to State Burial Board by Governor

Chuck Dearman, Jr., of Stephenson Dearman Funeral Home has been appointed to the Arkansas Burial Association Board by Governor Mike Beebe.
Dearman replaces Sumner Brashears on the board. The appointment expires December 31, 2015. .

MHS Mock Trial Team Advanced To Semi-Final Round Of The Arkansas Mock Trial Regional Competition

Jacob Chisom, Anna St. John, MaryKate Jones, Alex Jones, Erin Ashcraft, Julia Craig, and Elizabeth Wilson.
The Monticello High School Mock Trial Team advanced to semi-final round of the Arkansas Mock Trial Regional Competition by defeating Hope High School. The team’s loss in the semi-finals placed them in 3rd place behind Little Rock Catholic High School and Sheridan High School and ended the team’s chance to advance to the state level of competition. The students invest many hours after school in preparation for this event.

Former Boll Weevil Signs With New York Jets

Former UAMonticello defensive back Eric Crocker has signed to play for the NFL’s New York Jets, announced this past Friday by the Jets’ front office.
Crocker joins the Jets after playing 18 games for the San Antonio Talons of the Arena Football League during the 2012 season. Crocker recorded 70.5 total tackles, including 60 solo tackles and an assisted tackle for a loss. He also had three interceptions, 13 pass breakups, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

Sunrise Glare Causes Close Call for Driver

Around 7:30, Sunday morning, the driver of this Chrysler PT Cruiser was driving into the sunrise, when the glare caused him to travel too far onto the shoulder of Barkada Road.
The Chrysler could’ve easily overturned, as it narrowly missed the deep culverts in the area.
Dan’s Towing removed the vehicle, Monticello PD worked the wreck scene.

This March, 2013, offering will begin a series that will give you a room-by-room tour of our own Drew County Historical Museum. I hope you will enjoy these entries and will stop by the museum yourself to peruse its treasures face-to-face.
The museum itself was formerly known as the Cavaness house for those of you who never knew, or have forgotten, its beginnings. Newlyweds Garvin W. Cavaness and his wife, Pattie Phenton Wells, began construction of their home in 1906.
Billies Bow to Pottsville 56-54 in State Playoffs

The Monticello Billies led all the way from the early 1st period, until the second overtime; but the Pottsville Apaches came from behind to tie the game 8 times, took the lead with seconds to go for a 56-54 win over the Billies.

Drew Central Senior Named as National Merit Scholarship Finalist

Jessica Wishard, a senior at Drew Central High School, received recognition at their recent school board meeting for advancing to finalist standing in the National Merit Scholarship Program of 2013. She was awarded a certificate by Ms. Melissa Vincent, Principal of the high school.
Problems Presented by Parole / Probation Program Plague Court Precedings
March 1st, 2013 byDrew County currently does not have an active parole / probation case officer dedicated for the county’s offenders. Currently, officers designated for other counties are covering Drew County, on top of their regular responsibilities.
When questions about probation case in Circuit Court Monday, Judge Gibson said that was under the impression the each officer had a maximum case load of 25. Court testimony later reflected that total has been increased up to 60.

This fatal crash where the State Police investiagated the driver of an asphault truck jumping from his truck, causing the death of a driver of a mini-van was the best news tip for the month of October.
The $100 prize was donated by the news tip caller of Hope Place family Center, for pregnancy care and counseling.

Sadie Johnson Center Nearing Completion

The Sadie Johnson Community Center is nearing completion, preparing for its opening ceremony on April 14.
Reservation will begin on April 1, for dates after the ribbon cutting ceremony.
The front steps were completed, Wednesday, with the handicap access ramp to be added next.
Tiner Appointed to County Board

Mark Tiner, of Union Bank, has been appointed to served Drew County on the public facilities board.
Tiner replaces Charlie Searcy, who was elected to serve as county treasurer.
Tiner was appointed by the county judge, with the approval of the Quorum Court.

She was a friend of the residents in that facility, and an important part of the families of those residents.

Willie Lee Jefferson
February 27th, 2013 byWillie Lee Jefferson was born to the late J.B. Jefferson and the late Clara Hazel Trotter Jefferson on December 18, 1959 in the Winchester Community. He departed this life on Saturday, February 23, 2013 in Monticello, AR.
He leaves to cherish his memory four brothers: Parnell Miles Jr. (Kansas City MO), Wilbert Miles (Oklahoma City, OK), Tyrone Miles (Spencer, OK), and Johnnie Jefferson (Monticello); five sisters: Pearlie Wiggins (Kansas City, MO), Bobbie Allen (Kansas City, KS), Martha Williams (McGehee), Linda Daniels (Selma), and Ruby Ashford (Monticello); and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, relatives and friends.
