Prosecution’s Closing Argument
August 29th, 2014 byAt 11 am, Judge Sam Pope explained the definitions of 1st and 2nd degree murder, manslaughter, negligent homicide, and abuse of a corpse, before the state presented their closing argument.
The state pointed to the inconsistencies of Williams’ interviews, as well as questions about his history of seizures and 7-8 “recent injuries.”
Court took lunch recess at 12:00, and the defense will offer their closing when court resumes.

August 28th, 2014 byCity Attorney Whit Barton addressed the City council, Tuesday evening, about the problem of creeks flooding in Monticello.
Mr. Barton stated he was asked last week whether the City can clean out ditches on private property. He responded that the answer is no, but under the right circumstances they can. If a creek or ditch is a significant part of the City’s drainage system, then it can be cleared by the City.

Deer Camp Fire Results in Arson Arrest

During the early morning hours, Saturday, a fire was called in at a local deer camp by camp members.
The Lacey-Ladelle Fire Department responded to the fire along with a Drew County Deputy. The fire was believed to be arson at the time because there was no electricity to the building due to it being turned off until hunting season.
