Sunday Morning, Coming Down – Police, Prayer, & Peace Signs

July 26th, 2015 by

Although it was a long, busy night for all local law enforcement agencies, aside from providing security for the Florence Road rally, there were no incidents requiring police attention related to that event.

A wide variety of calls were reported, and answered by MPD and DCSO, ranging from a report of shots being fired (no damage or injury were reported, and the suspect vehicle was identified), to loud music disturbance calls, to an auto accident involving a car and a cow at Lacey.

imageThe rumors and fears drew many responses from local residents, including a “love & peace” group on the town square, a guy from Dumas (representing a group from Chicago) protesting the rally, and many prayers for our community, residents, and police officers.
Just let me say that our community should be proud of our law enforcement team, for stepping up in the face of what could have been a much more trying situation.

  1. Stacey says:

I am proud of my town and community! We are peaceful here in Drew a County! Praise The Lord!!!!!!

  2. Joe Harrod says:

Other than saying that a group out of Chicago, or a man out of another county has no bearing or say concerning anything in Drew county, I would just like to say good job to the MPD and the DCSO.

  3. Joe Harrod says:

And to clarify, I am only thinking in terms of the mans safety, as we all know how some of these hate groups operate. I do applaud him for showing his opinion.

  4. Annette says:

A lawful assembly is good even if it does not represent love. It’s sad when you have grown up in a community around people with law abiding citizen as parent and they grow up to represent hate.I cannot name the people I am speaking of but his family and mine were close they were good law abiding citizens.

  5. concerned citizen says:

So nice to see our Caucasian citizens standing against that kkk mess!

  6. Bishop Sam Wherry says:

Full Commemorations to Sherriff Mark Gober, Monticello Police Chief Eddie Deaton, Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigative Detective Morris Knight, The Drew County ecumenical Ministerial Alliance , Joe Burgess(Monticello Live) for securing and maintain peace and tranquility. Job more than well done.

  7. former resident says:

    Prayerfully this doesn’t happen again.

  8. Wow says:

Wonderful news. However, this is not the first and probably won’t be the last time. It is well known in the black community that this has been going on for years. We are not ignorant of this. This one instance just happen to be around the time racial tensions are high and differences about the confederate flag and church shooting. Don’t think we don’t know.
