Northbound traffic on Gabbert Street should detour to Main Street, then Pope Street, to avoid a blocked roadway, at the intersection of Gabbert and Jefferson Street.

The meeting of the Advantages of Southeast Arkansas, Inc. Board of Directors, which was scheduled for November 24th, has been moved to Tuesday, December 1st, at 3:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Discovery Children’s Center, located at 178 West College, Monticello, Arkansas. Due to the holidays, the meeting that was scheduled for Tuesday, December 22nd, has been cancelled.
Effective in January, meetings will go back to their normal date and time, the 4th Tuesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. at the Discovery Children’s Center building.

Drew County Circuit Clerk Beverly Burks of Wilmar has announced her candidacy for re-election in the 2016 general election. Burks, a Democrat, is currently serving her first year in office.
Prior to taking office in January, Burks worked two years as a deputy clerk in the Drew County Clerk’s office and served as editor of the Advance-Monticellonian for 14 years.
Thursday night’s open meeting about Drew Memorial Hospital’s proposed 1/4 cent extension of the expiring 1/2 cent library tax provided a chance for members of the public to meet the new surgeons, as well as hear updated statistics on surgery, and see the drawings of the new facility.

At 3:30 pm, Thursday, a Monticello man was killed and 2 other residents injured, in a head on collision, eas of Monticello.
According to SalineRiverChronicle, during a meeting that lasted a little over one hour, the Southeast Arkansas Intermodal Authority had a detailed discussion of how the Authority will pay off an estimated $600,000.00 to $700,000.00 loan that will be owed once all state and federal grants are expended.

Jerald Clarke, a veteran officer with the Monticello Police Dept. has filed to run as an independant candidate for the office of Drew County Sheriff, against Sheriff Mark Gober.
Since Gober is runing for re-election as a democrat, the2 candidates won’t go before voters until November, 2016.

County sheriff Mark Gober was the first candidate to file for reelection, at noon, Monday. Gober is seeking reelection.
Justice of the Peace for District 7, Patty Mitchell, was next, filing to maintain her seat on the county quorum court.
County Judge Robert Akin, an Independent, wasthe only non-– Democrat to file, Monday.

Thursday, Monticello Parks Committee member & Miracle League President Karen Connelley was joined by future Miracle League players to present to the Arkansas Outdoor Recreation Grant Committee in Jacksonville, AR to request $250,000 of grant funding to help Monticello build our field of dreams.
The Miracle League Field will be first handicap accessible baseball field in Southeast Arkansas. Grant winners will be announced in December.
