Following last week’s “anywhere but here” reception by the City Council to purchase a section of land on the Whaley property to build a new, ecpanded, centrally located clinic, Mainline Health has withdrawn their proposal.

Dear City Council and Mayor Rogers,
The 3rd annual “Dancing with the Monticello Stars” was held Tuesday night by the Southeast Arkansas Health Foundation, raising $30,847 for Drew Memorial Hospitas projects.
Last year , the foundation contributed $100,000 in donations to be used in the oncology dept., and a $15,000 donation to purchase a fetal monitor, among other items.

Allan Nichols, Director of Mainline Health Systems, addressed the City Council at their meeting at last week’s City Council meeting, to ask for permission to purchase property adjoining the new fIre station on North Main Street, for the purpose of building a larger clinic.

The Monticello City Council met in a specially called session Tuesday evening, to decide whether to hire an attorney, Mr. Cliff Gibson, to represent the City in their dealings with Siemens, Inc., the corporation contracted for $10 million to revamp Monticello’s water system, with his stipulation that a private engineer be employed to assist him.

The Drew Memorial Hospital Board of Directors met in a special called meeting, Monday morning, and approved a “settlement” with “employees.”
Options, Inc. was started because a small number of individuals saw the need of Domestic Violence Victims and their Children. A survey was conducted through law enforcement and court systems in 1989 in the five counties of the 10th Judicial District. The survey was conducted by concerned citizens and professionals. The data was compiled and results were that one out of every four calls was regarding some type of domestic or family violence.
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic Violence Awareness month is held every October to educate people about domestic violence, and to encourage victims and abusers to get help.
Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior used to gain control over a person by a partner, relative, or household member.
Abusers often make it difficult for victims to get help by blaming them, promising the abuse will stop, or making victims feel they cannot escape—either because they may suffer further abuse or due to financial constraints.

Club director, Lowell Lynde, playing with Bodie Cobb of Keo, AR, Martha Young of Monroe, and Elizabeth Bryan of Jackson, MS won the Saturday open knockout team event at the Monroe sectional tournament on October 5.
Ira Gene Burke, 82 of Dumas, Arkansas passed away October 10, 2014 in Dumas. He was born March 14, 1932 in Florence, Arkansas to the late Edgar Monroe and Flora Haynes Burke. Ira was owner of General Tin Shop in Dumas for 31 years and was Assembly of God faith. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Steve Burke.
Survived by his wife, Ina Burke of Dumas, one son, Mike (Pam) Burke of Dumas, one daughter, Glenda (Dennis) Owen of Dumas, one sister, Pat Selman of Monticello, AR and three brothers, Keith, Lamar and Leonard Burke all of Florence, AR and by three grandchildren, Misty Owen Morgan, Denise Owen Cox, Michael Ira Burke and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 5-7 pm at Griffin Funeral Home, Dumas and service will be Monday, October 13, 2014 at 2:00 pm graveside, Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer Association of Arkansas or charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Griffin Funeral Home, Dumas, Arkansas.

Around 9:30, Friday morning, professional home movers were re-locating this house, (formerly located next to Sav-a-Lot) to it’s new location, on Winchester Road.
Police shut down McCloy Street, to eliminate sharp turns, and prevent oncoming traffic and potentional accidents.
The photos above show some of the events that stood in their way, such as hanging wires, stop signs, and the guy who ignored the police road-block.
An estimated 20 Entergy employees worked through the night, in the Bolling Street area, replacing broken poles and downed power lines.
At 3:10 AM, they achieved their goal of “0” Monticello customers without electric power.

Drew County Deputies were dispatched to a residence in Wilmar, Tuesday night, in reference to a local man being stabbed.
At the September meeting of the intermodal authority, it was approved to advertise for bed for a 750,000 gallon water tank for the facility.
