Monticello Police officers joined the search a couple of hours later, and they also were past midnight, working to apprehend the felon, who was a threat to the town they serve and protect. They also put the needs of residents in front of their own.
When Tuesday’s wildfire was reported, our Monticello Fire Dept., along with the Arkansas Forestry Commission, battled the blaze for over 6 hours, as the fire changed directions, as the wind changed several times, in the smoke and fire and fumes.
We need to recognize how valuable our first responders are to our community; keeping us safe, regardless of the threat that they are protecting us from.

School Districts all across the state are in desperate need of school bus drivers. This is also the case for the Monticello School District.
Having enough route drivers, substitute drivers and trip drivers has become critical. We have fulltime, substitute, and trip driver positions available.

One major change for this upcoming year is the ability for players in the 13-15 year old age group to register on the same website as all other players.
Louisa Smith was the guest speaker at a recent Monticello Lions Club meeting. She spoke about ‘Feed the Kids’. A program that has been in existence since 2006.
Food packs are prepared by volunteers for 150 children each week in Monticello and Drew Central Schools.

Monday night, the City Council, at 6pm, to discuss he proposed salary scale for city employees..
The Mayor’s request regarding salaries requested a plan to “levelize” the varying salaries among workers, from when there were fewer pay guidelines.
Posted below (from an earlier article) are the current and proposed salaries for the city employees that will earn over $40,000, and the employees that are scheduled to receive over a $3,000 pay increase, plus a couple of other positions, of public interest.

Road construction began, Thursday, replacing the drain/dip across Meadowview Drive, near its intersection with Pinecrest, in Western Pines.
The plan is to dig up the “trench” from across the street, and replace it with drains and culverts.
The road may be closed, at times, for up to three weeks, until the construction is completed.
The Drew County Sheriff’s Office along with multiple surrounding agencies have been investigating a rash of vehicle break-ins throughout the area since around January 20.
University of Arkansas at Monticello Chancellor Karla Hughes has announced the beginning of a reorganization of her senior administrative team.

For the third time in the last four seasons, the University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team is set to open its season at Minute Maid Park as a part of the 2016 Houston Winter Invitational.
The Weevils open the 2016 schedule on Friday, February 5 at 10 a.m. against Tarleton State, followed by a 2 p.m. matchup with Central Missouri on Saturday and a 6 p.m. game against St. Mary’s on Sunday. Read the rest of this entry »
