Drew Central Gifted and Talented Student Wins Co-op Question of the Month

Anely and her GT Teacher, Morgan Temple

Anely Jean-Francois placed first in the Question of the Month presented by the GT Specialist, Stephanie Hollis, at the local Cooperative.  For January, students were asked to invent an indoor game to get kids moving for the recommended 60 minutes a day.  Anely came up with “Moving Chaos – An Active Board Game.”  Players must perform different tasks in order to escape certain doom!  Thank you to Ms. Stephanie Hollis for allowing our kids a chance to express their creativity through problem solving.  Anely won a $20 gift card for her hard work!  Congratulations, Anely!


Local Fundraisers Begin for Gavin Wear, DC Student Seeking to Save his Eyesight with Treatment in Germany

Gavin WearA Drew Central baseball player, Gavin Wear, is losing his eye sight to a genetic disorder, his mutation is rare with only 6% with his condition having their eye sight affected.

His only chance for treatment and to regain some of his eye sight and potentially get back on the field is to travel to the Fedorov Restore Vision Clinic in Berlin, Germany. Read the rest of this entry »

Keep Arkansas beautifulThe Keep Arkansas Beautiful Commission (KAB) has announced that it has elected Mark Simpson as chair and Jeremy Sparks as vice-chair on its 2021 board of commissioners. Simpson and Sparks follow a long line of dedicated chairs. The immediate past chairs are Laurie Blackwell Black of Lake Village, Arkansas, and Jane Phillips-Jolly of Hot Springs who both served two terms as chair and vice-chair. Food Supplies Available at Revival Center, Tuesday, 1-3 PM

Food pantry truckTuesday afternoon,
1 – 3pm,  there will be a food truck delivering around 1,000 boxes of free food on the Revival Center parking lot, at Pine & Jackson Streets.

There are no requirements to meet to receive food from this event.

Please share this with anyone who may have been effected  by the recent bad weather or missed work.
