516Missions Hosting Community-Wide Dessert Theater Variety Show, Saturday

516Missions and Pauline Baptist Church are hosting a community-wide Dessert Theater Variety Show this Saturday, February 11th at 7pm at the First Baptist Church Gym. Tickets are $15/person and can be picked up from Pauline Baptist Church office or from 516Missions team members.

ALL proceeds go to short term missions teams going to New Orleans, Washington, PA, Starkville, Jamaica, Costa Rica, The Philippines, Belize, and Kenya. All are welcome! For More Information, contact 367.3085. All are welcome!

MHS Safe Prom Fundraiser at Piggly Wiggly

Monday, February 6th, 2012

On February 9th and 10th at the Piggly Wiggly on Main Street, the Monticello High School junior class Safe Prom Committee will be serving up Boston butts, ribs, chicken, BBQ sandwiches, and smoked sausages.

This event will assist the committee in raising funds to support Safe Prom, an event that provides safe and fun activities for students on Prom night. Come by on Thursday February 9th and/or Friday February 10th from 10am to 6pm for great food at a great price for a great cause!

“Freezin’ for a Reason” – Polar Plunge & Special Olympics

This year, Special Olympics Arkansas (SOAR) is celebrating its 40th year anniversary. Monticello is in Area 12, which consists of 8 different counties: Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun, Chicot, Cleveland, Dallas, Desha and Drew.

Any person eight years of age or older, who is identified as having an intellectual disability (cognitive disabilities, mental handicaps, or mental retardation) or adaptive skill limitations by an agency or a professional, in any given local area, is considered eligible for Special Olympics.

$10,000+ Raised For Special Olympics By “Plungers”

Here are the final results from the “Polar Bear Plunge”:

Best costume team – South Arkansas Rehabilitation/Sock Monkeys
Best costume individual – Amber Wells/Ice Cube
Most $$ team – IMA (Becky’s team) $950.46
Most $$ individual – Jason & Karen Caldwell a little over $2,000.00 each

Total amount raised $10,019.00 with a total of 54 plungers.

The next event is Area 12 Basketball to be held Friday, February 25 at the University Center Gym on the UAM Campus. Registration starts at 9 am and the games will start at 9:30 am. Right now volunteers are needed to keep score and officiate. Persons interested in volunteering can contact Karen Caldwell at 870-723-2417 and Junior High or High School Special Ed teachers interested in putting in a team can contact Ked Donham at 870-723-2539. Ked must be notified by Tuesday, February 22nd.
