Boozman & Westerman Visit UAM, Discuss Farm Bill – Video

The University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Agriculture auditorium was near capacity, last week, as farmers, business people, bankers, educators, and other stakeholders gathered for a listening session on the 2023 Farm Bill. The session aimed to allow the public to air their views and provide input on what should be included in the new farm legislation. The listening session featured United States Senator John Boozman and Representative Bruce Westerman, who listened to the seven panelists discuss their views on various topics, including crop insurance, conservation programs, rural development, agricultural research, and nutrition assistance programs. Much of the meeting was filled with the audience’s suggestions for the Farm Bill.

Drew County Cooperative Extension To Conduct Brucellosis Vaccinations, Monday March 13th.

Brian Gibson, Livestock and Poultry Commission Inspector, will be conducting Brucellosis vaccinations on Monday March 13th. For planning purposes, please contact my office at 870-460- 6270 with the number of heifers from 4-12 months of age that you would like vaccinated. Be sure

to give your name, address with the location of cattle, and your phone number.

The deadline for sign-up is Friday March 10th. I will call you with an estimated time of arrival on the morning of March 13th. Please remember that adequate cattle handling facilities are required.

Wet Road Crash, Friday.

The driver of this GMC Yukon was traveling between Monticello and Mcgehee, Friday, around 10:30 AM, when they lost control of the vehicle in the wet roads near the Tillar turn, at 277/278.

Baptist Health & Drew Memorial Meeting about Long Term Operation of DMH by Baptist – Video

If this proposed long-term lease, likely for 25 years, takes place, it could begin as early as July 1, of this year.

Drew Memorial is owned by Drew County, and would continue to be.

The transaction also requires support of approximately 1/2% sales tax increase for the hospital by members of the current Drew Memorial board of directors.

A wide range of questions were asked by the board and hospital staff, and doctors, most of which were answered with either descriptions that were pleasing to most, or in some cases, “just look at our past history of how we’ve dealt with other local hospitals that have joined our system.”

Compost Grinder Back In Operation

After months of not taking debris due to the cities chipper being inoperable, the City of Monticello’s transfer station has now re-opened to take public yard debris.

The transfer station crew has worked diligently to remove months of debris that accumulated during the time the chipper was down.
