“Generator Fire” at Jail Reported

ED2FCAAD-E366-49A9-9935-12AFDFCC609FMinutes after 8 PM, Thursday night, Monticello, Firefighters, along with MPD and DCSO officers responded to the report of a “generator fire“ at the county detention facility (jail).

Upon their arrival, the generator was running, but an automatic transfer switch was found to be the cause of the smoke.

All inmates were safe and secure during the event.

New Police Chief Carlos Garcia, a Short Bio

Carlos GarciaCarlos was raised in New York City where he graduated from high school. After graduation, Garcia enlisted in the US Army where he diligently worked his way up the infantry ranks, traveling to many different countries while learning important leadership, and lifeskills from his experiences and superiors.

In the late 1990’s, Carlos was stationed in Fort Campbell, KY, and assigned as a unit trainer for the National Guard unit in Warren. It was during this time that he began to pursue his interest in Law Enforcement by first joining the Drew County Auxiliary and eventually working as a part-time deputy for Drew County. It was also during this time that he met his future wife, Denise, a Monticello native. (more…)

Wilmar Shooting, Wednesday Night. DCSO Asking for Public’s Help

Shooting.Around 9 PM, Wednesday evening, a Wilmar man was seriously wounded, when he was shot, near Johnson Street, in Wilmar.

The victim was transported by ambulance to a hospital, north of here, where his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The sheriffs department is asking for any information the public may have about a potential suspect or vehicles in the area. Please call 367-6211, if you have any information.

MPD Receives $32,773 in Grant Funding

MpdAccording to Monticello Police Chief Jason Akers, the City of Monticello has received a grant for $32,773.38 from the Arkansas Department of Public Safety for the purchase of new Kevlar vests and vest carriers for the entire Monticello Police Department. (more…)

MPD RECEIVES $48,500 GRANT

MPDAccording to Monticello Police Chief Jason Akers, MPD recently received notice that City of Monticello was approved for a grant of $48,500 through the Arkansas Highway Safety Office,  to be used for salary purposes for MPD’s participation in traffic safety mobilizations.

MPD aggressively and actively pursues all grant opportunities for both equipment and funds that may be utilized to decrease the amount of local funding the police department receives.

In addition to this grant, MPD has received grant funds in 2022 for uniforms and the replacement of all of MPD’s body worn cameras for officers.
