Saturday morning, University Storage, on Bowser Road at HWY 425, held a legally publicized storage building auction.
Unlike on TV’s “Storage Wars,” around a dozen people were present, with no yelling or confrontations taking place.
The auctions began with the locks being cut, followed by the balance being owed for rent being announced, and asking if anyone would pay that amount.
At that point, the items inside became property of the facility, owner, who ask if anyone would make an offer.
An offer of $300 from a local business person bought two of the storage sheds and everyone left. “happy enough.”
Jeff and Michelle Pace, along with their sons and daughter, Dayton, Sam and Cheyanna England, were announced Thursday as the Drew County “Homestead Farm Family of the Year” by County Fair Board. (more…)

The management of the business extended their appreciation to the many Monticello residents who helped them earn this honor.

Last Thursday, George Harris celebrated 40 years of banking, during Monticello’s official “George Harris Day,”as declared by the mayor.
Commercial Bank celebrated with George’s customers, family and friends, throughout the day.
During the event, Todd Smith, the new President of the bank, shared Mayor Chase’s proclamation.
George shared some thoughts, along with a slideshow with 40 years of memories, and bank owner Bennie Ryburn thanked George for his years of service to the bank and the community.
Kindred at Home recently became CenterWell Home Health with a Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting on Friday and had a celebration with their clinicians.
They provide skilled home health services such as nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy for all of Ashley, Bradley, Chicot, Cleveland, Desha, Drew, Llincoln, and parts of Arkansas, Calhoun, Dallas, Grant, Jefferson, and Union counties. (more…)
The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) has announced a 1.5% increase in overall enrollment for the Fall 2022 semester. The overall number of students enrolled for the fall semester is 2,717, up from 2,677 students during the fall 2021 semester. (more…)

In the past six days, 25 employees from SeaArk gathered at the Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Home for an employee service project. Employees were split into four groups to complete 4 special projects. (more…)

Mainline Health Systems announced on Friday the addition of a women’s health clinic at its Monticello location to serve Drew County and surrounding areas with limited access to medical providers that specialize in care for women.

A piece of equipment inside a Monticello substation caused an outage to about 3,500 customers about 9 a.m. this morning.
Crews are testing the equipment for damage. The current estimated restoration time for all customers is 5 p.m.
Cooling centers are available. Those who need refuge from the heat can visit the University Center at University of Arkansas at Monticello or the New Life Assembly church at 1664 Highway 425 South
