The 4th of July is a time for national celebration, full of backyard cookouts, pool parties, and fireworks. The buzz of a drink is not needed to feel the thrill of the summer holiday festivities. But if you or someone you know decides to drink and is impaired by alcohol, it is not safe to drive a vehicle. This Independence Day, Monticello Police Department and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) urge drivers to share the message that Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving. Mainline Health Systems Inc. (MHSI) was recently named as one of the Best Places to Work in Arkansas. In its 11th year, Arkansas Business continues to offer this program in partnership with Workforce Research Group. This survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best employers in Arkansas, benefiting the state’s economy, workforce and businesses. The list is made up of 50 companies, and MHSI has been named one of this year’s Best Places to Work in Arkansas.
To be considered for participation, companies had to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

Providing small and emerging business owners with the skills, tools, and contacts needed to create and grow their enterprises and better engage in job creation activities are the goals of an upcoming business conference to be held via Zoom, with two small on-site audiences in Magnolia and Monticello, Arkansas. Funded by the Arkansas Human Development Corporation (AHDC), Arkansas Small Business & Technology Development Center (ASBTDC), Arkansas Business Navigator program, FORGE Community Loan Fund, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and USDA Rural Development, the 2023 Southwest Arkansas Rural Business Development Conference, with a theme of “Breaking Barriers: Engaging Minds, Empowering Success” will bring together approximately 20 private, quasi-state, state, federal, non-profit, and national organizations with a singular focus of equipping existing and aspiring entrepreneurs with the resources to start and grow their businesses.
Monticello Mayhem 12U softball team won the FPPT Memorial Day Classic 12U Open Championship held May 27th in Conway Arkansas. Mayhem went undefeated in the tournament winning the championship by beating Arkansas Hurricanes 4-3.

This was a 4-ring show where Joslyn R. received 1 grand and 1 reserve in Jr. Appine, 2 grand and 1 reserve in R Jr. Toggenburg and in Sr. Toggenburg 1 reserve. Nora R. received 2 grand and 2 reserves in Jr. Toggenburg, and 1 grand and 1 reserve in Jr. Saneen. Maci L. had 1 reserve and 3rd in Sr. Alpine, 5th in Jr. Alpine. Peyton showed Nigerian Dwarf 4-year-old does and aged does. He won Pee Wee Showmanship.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced that the Farm Service Agency (FSA) will begin sending prefilled applications to rice producers the week of May 8 for the new Rice Production Program (RPP), which will provide up to $250 million in assistance to rice farmers based on 2022 planted and prevented planted acres.
