The driver and passenger of this Ford pick-up narrowly escaped injury, Wednesday afternoon around 4 PM, when the truck, loaded with firewood, left the roadway 3 miles east of Monticello, crossed a ditch, and ran into a wooded area.
The Drew County Sheriff’s Dept. worked the wreck. SEEMS and the Fire & Rescue team also dispatch to the scene.
Rod’s Wrecker removed the pick-up.
Shortly after 4 PM, Thursday, a car fire was reported on Sam Carter Road, near Wilmar.
A Drew County Sheriffs Deputy was the first to respond, reporting that another (locked) car parked nearby, and a home approximately 30 feet away, were possibly at risk.
The Wilmar fire department responded, extinguished the blaze, and kept it from spreading to the other vehicle or home.
The Carl B. & Florence E. King Foundation has awarded the Southeast Arkansas Regional Library a $25,000 grant.
This grant will help Southeast Arkansas Regional Librarians to include healthy eating and physical activities in library programs for preschool, elementary and middle school students.

Monday, Clark Mason, a candidate for a justice position on the Arkansas Supreme Court, was visiting in Monticello, including staff and officials at the Drew County courthouse.
Also, Connor Eldridge, a former U.S. Attorney, a Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate, was recently in Monticello, visiting with friends and campaigning.
Monticello Economic Development Corporation director Nita McDaniel and UAM Upward Pre-College Program director Tawana Greene-Jones are participating in the ACT Work Ready Communities (ACT WRC) Academy, which is being funded and organized by the Workforce Alliance of Southeast Arkansas. The Workforce Alliance of Southeast Arkansas is a UAM based regional workforce education and training program.

Arkansans to Access Free Dental Care
The Arkansas Mission of Mercy to Provide a Two-Day, 100-Chair Dental Clinic at Monticello.
ARMOM, a Free Dental Clinic, sponsored by the Arkansas Dental Association, will be returning to Monticello, on May 20-21, to be held at UAM Gibson Center.
Dentists from all around the state will combine their skills for a tremendous cost-free dental clinic, for residents from all across the state, who need dental care.
When ARMOM was in Monticello, in 2010, 1,254 patients were treated, 3,001 teeth were extracted, and thousand’s of fillings were done. The value of the services that were provided for free would have cost, $760,000.
2 young Crossett men are currently in the Drew County jail on charges of aggravated assault and terroristic acts, following a shooting spree, at the Monticello Estates apartments on College Street, around 10 pm, Monday night.
