Scooby Doo, Where Are You?……. In Monticello?

z scoobyBart Gregory, of Pure Pressure Power Washing, recently held a FaceBook contest to select the new paint scheme for his work van’s new paint job.

The winning design was ‘Scooby Doo’s Mystery Machine.”

Bart, who also does residential and commercial exterior painting (224-2045), admitts that has recently been accused of breathing too many paint fumes.

Trailer Catches Fire from Yard Burning

zbWednesday afternoon, around 1:30, the Monticello Fire Dept. was called to put out a mobile home fire, that had started from a nearby fire in the yard.

It appeared that only minor damage was done to the trailer, thanks to the quick response of the first responders, who arrived at the Griffith St. address.

Monticello School District Taking Sealed Bids On Computer Equipment

photo (2)The Monticello School District will be taking sealed bids on an HP ProCurve MSM760 Wireless Controller and 23 HP ProCurve MSM410 Wireless Access Points.

Bids must be received by 10:00am Tuesday November 12, 2013 and will be opened on Tuesday November 12, 2013 @ 11:00am.

Early Morning Accident

zSunday night, around midnight, the driver of this Honda S-2000 was norrhbound on I-530, when he told deputies that another vehicle had caused him to run off of the roadway.

The Honda traveled down the road ditch, coming to a stop in a creekbed, next to a bridge.

Dan’s towed the vehicle; the driver trportedly only recieved minor injuries.

Monticello Pre-K Goes Pink

Pre-K Pink 1Friday, October 18th was declared ‘Go Pink Day’ at Monticello Pre-K. The staff and students wore Pink to honor a Pre-K Staff member, Mrs. Pam Dunlap, who is a cancer survivor. The students and staff members cheered Mrs. Dunlap on as she prepared to walk in Little Rock at the annual Race for the Cure. Mrs. Dunlap was presented with flowers, balloons, caps and a pink tote bag filled with an assortment of pink gifts. In her honor the Pre-K staff members were also presented with pink tote bags.

 

2006 Log Truck Wreck 4 Day Jury Trial, Wednesday Summary

za zaA big rig wreck on Oct. 2, 2006 in Calhoun County led to the trial, which is expected to last 3-4 days.zc

While driving a loaded log truck on Calhoun County Road #2,, Gene Gibson (a Drew County resident) had the loaded log truck he was driving, run off of the pavement and rolled onto its right side.

A log shifted, and enter the cab, apparently injuring Gibson.

Rails Being Laid at Industrial Park

zzzzAfter months of dirt moving by city and county workers, as well as the UAM heavy equipment training class, rails and crossties are now being laid in place for the new rail spur at the Industrial Park, on HWY 35 East.

County, MEDC, Others See Huge Benefits from States’s New VA Home, if Built in Monticello

The recent re-application for cities to espresse interest in being home to the state’s new veterans care home is receiving the full attention of Quorum Court, MEDC, City of Monticello, and many other local residents and organizations.

When consttucted, the $22 million dollar facility ex expected to provide over $3 million in yearly payroll.

The deadline is November.

 

 

MFD Moves Into New Fire Station

015 017The Monticello Fire Dept. has moved into its new Central Fire Station on Wood Street.

The new station has 3 bays for fire trucks, and even holds the long ladder truck, which was stored outside at the UAM station.z

“You Can’t Herd Cats” – City Council Discusses Changes to Dog Ordinance, Problems with Cat Population

Monticello’s City Council, Thursday night, discussed suggested changes to the city dog ordinance. Some council member described the current ordinance as “adequate, if enforced.”

Others said the fines need to be increased, since the current fines were set in 1972.

Local Contestants to Compete in State Fair Finals, Tomorrow

Miss Drew County, Anna Norris was one of three selected to advance from Thursday night’s prelim to the finals on Saturday night. Students Charlee Carter, Bliss Jaggers, and Alex Jones from Monticello Dance Academy won the Dance Group division and Charlee Carter won the Dance Solo division and will represent the Southeast region of the state at the Arkansas State Fair Finals Youth Talent Show on Saturday.
