Due to the construction of the I-69 bypass, the Arkansas Highway Department closed Bordeaux Road to through traffic several months ago.
At last week’s Quorum Court meeting, the JP’s approved Is Robert Akin’s recommendation to appoint Robin McClendon to the Drew Memorial Hospital board.
The justices also approved his earlier appointment of Mike Akin to the board.
Shortly after 10 o’clock Wednesday night, Monticello Police officers pulled up at Monticello High School. When they did, they noticed several students running from the school.
Other students were quickly rounded up in nearby parking lots, and brought to the school.
Monticello Middle School students are collecting items for the tornado victims.
The school has some specific families that they are collecting donations for, and the other donations we have received will be going to various organizations in the Mayflower and Vilonia area.
The MMS students have been collecting money for 3 days and we have a total of $1,281.03 so far and we are going to be continuing collecting money through next Wednesday, May 7.

A 10th grade MHS student received a one year expulsion from school, Tuesday night, as the school board agreed to uphold recommendation of the superintendent

Construction of the local Family Dollar store is making good progress this week. The outtside walls are being installed, today.
Recently, Family Dollar announced 370 store closings nationwide.
Shady Grove Baptist Church’s disaster relief team has made contact with a Vilonia area church, who can point the volunteers to local needs there.
Currently, team members are assembling fuel and supplies, as authorities have just begun to permit volunteer workers into the storm damage site.
Pauline Baptist Church plans to send Disaster Relief Teams to the tornado damaged areas, starting Wednesday.
The group plan to help clear debris and to help in any other way that’s needed there.

This female puppy was found in the Western Pines neighborhood. Seems to be a Jack Russell or Jack Russell mix. Very sweet, and seems to be an inside puppy.

According to the Drew County Sheriff’s Dept, scam artists are contacting Drew County businesses, claiming to be affiliated with C&L Electric.
City council approved a resolution Tuesday evening to accept a bid from Environmental Protection Associates in the amount of $129,986 for mold removal and related work at Monticello City Hall. A GIF grant will fund $15,000 of the project.

During the monthly meeting of the Southeast Arkansas Intermodal Facility Authority Board April 16th conducted in Monticello, the Authority voted to authorize the completion of plans and specifications for construction of a water tank on the intermodal site located between Monticello and Warren.
Dr. Ryan Collins and his staff welcomed the Chamber of Commerce and other guests for the ceremonial ribbon-cutting at their new facility, located at the intersection of Hyatt and Gaines Streets.

On Friday, March 14, Jonathan Woods fatally shot Samantha Poole on/near the Sav-A-Lot parking lot.
An Air-Evac rescue helicopter was called to transport the victim, but she died before the copter arrived.
Woods was then loaded on the helicopter, airlifted to JRMC in Pine Bluff, for what has been described as “his non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the left armpit area.”
Tuesday evening, after considerable discussion, the Monticello City Council approved an amendment to the City’s contract with Utility Service Group to repair and reinforce the foundation of the Burlington water tower. The amount of this contract amendment is $124,200.
Following a divorce, along with many related and unrelated allegations, a Drew County man is in jail on Contempt of Court charges from Drew County Circuit Court.
At a special called meeting of the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees held Tuesday afternoon in a conference call, the board approved the sale of 80.99 acres to a Bio-fuel industry out of Texas, and an additional 3.5 acres to the Monticello Economic Development Commission to build an access road.

Around 8:45 Tuesday night, police and an ambulance were called when a UAM student was struck by a car, between Drew Central and HWY 425. Contrary to earlier reports, the student was not a part of UAM athletics fundraising project for the Make-A-Wish foundation, the Fun Glow Run.
While the world was watching Monday’s Boston Marathon, 10 Arkansans took part in it, including one man from the Monticello area.
