This photo of Florence Road, taken this morning, shows that several county roads are still underwater, and not safe to travel alone.
Please be careful as you drive around Monticello and Drew County.
ARDOT has closed the bridge section north of Monticello, due to flooding, and until flood waters go down, and they can get the bridge inspected to make sure it is safe.
At a special called board meeting Tuesday night the Drew Central school board hired elementary school principal Nancy Chapman to serve as the district’s superintendent for the upcoming year starting July 1. Read the rest of this entry »


This photo shows road crews, DCSO and OEM responding to a fallen tree across Highway 278, near Dead Man’s Curve, Tuesday morning around 10 AM.
Since then, flooded roadways, fallen trees, and a power outage have affected portions of Drew County, and seem to be starting again today, due to the flood watch that has been issued by the National Weather Service.
Please use caution when driving, and be aware of weather related dangers, that may have occurred.

Fears and rumors of effects of the eclipse causing traffic, cellular, and other disruptions to Arkansas residents proved to be unfounded, Monday, as any extra eclipse traffic that traveled through town appears to have passed through on the weekend, and was minimal on Monday.
MLive spoke to Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, late Monday evening, who commented that Monday seemed like a “normal” day, in Monticello, and added that potential fuel shortages may have been averted by area gas stations and convenience stores scheduling extra fuel shipments, to avoid any outages.
