UAM New Year, New Students, New Pavement

During recent weeks, prior to the new school year, the state has overlaid and repaired most of the road surface at UAM.

The remaining section, located in front of Chick-fil-A, will be paved when the nearby parking lot is placed in service.

UAM Sports Fan Day set for Saturday

Ryburn Motor Company and Commercial Bank are partnering with the University of Arkansas at Monticello for the sixth year to host the UAM Sports Fan Day set for Saturday, August 25 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the lot at Ryburn Motors on Highway 425 South in Monticello.

Coaches, student-athletes and staff from all of UAM’s intercollegiate teams, as well as the UAM cheerleaders and mascots, will participate in the event. Fan Day is open to the public at no charge.

Fans and members of the media are encouraged to stop by the dealership to visit with representatives of the UAM Athletics Department about the 2018-19 sports seasons. There will be picture opportunities, as well as free food and drinks. There will also be giveaways, games and activities for all attendees.

Trooper Promoted to Sergeant / Supervisor

Corporal David “Matt” Outlaw, 41, of Drew County, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant, assigned to Highway Patrol Division. He will serve as a post supervisor for Troop F, out of Drew & Bradley Counties.

Sergeant Outlaw is a 10 year veteran of the department.

1 Year Memorial Service for Deputy Tim Braden, Friday at 6 PM

On August 24, 2017, the Drew County Sheriff’s Office and the Drew County community suffered the loss of Deputy Tim Braden. Deputy Braden lost his life in the line of duty in a vehicle accident.

On Friday, August 24, 2018, the one-year anniversary of Deputy Braden’s ultimate sacrifice, there will be a memorial ceremony at 6 p.m. on the steps of the Drew County Courthouse, according To Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober. Read the rest of this entry »
