The Monticello City Council met in a specially called session Tuesday evening, to decide whether to hire an attorney, Mr. Cliff Gibson, to represent the City in their dealings with Siemens, Inc., the corporation contracted for $10 million to revamp Monticello’s water system, with his stipulation that a private engineer be employed to assist him.

Needed roof and gutter repairs at the OEC building were discussed at Tuesday night’s Monticello school board meeting.

Program director Randy Lay also explain the need for additional classrooms for the program, and answered the boards questions about likely growth in the vocational field of education.

The life-threatening incident at Watson Chapel, where 4 nurses out of the Monticello bleachers saved a junior high football player at the WC scrimmage game, has drawing attention to the possibility of similar incidents occurring.

At Tuesday night’s at Monticello school board meeting, the board discussed their “emergency action plan for athletics,”  which covers all sports included in the district athletic program.

Following week before last’s week’s heroic intervention that saved the life a a Watson Chapel football player in Pine Bluff, 4 local nurses were honored by the Monticello Schools, the Billie Booster Club, and the player they saved and his family.

Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division Area 7: Supervisor Phyllis Newton, Investigators: Anita Hammons, Dorris Hill, Haley Kiser, Stephanie Odom, Kim Owens-Gill and Staci Tumey.

City Attorney Whit Barton addressed the City council, Tuesday evening, about the problem of creeks flooding in Monticello.

Mr. Barton stated he was asked last week whether the City can clean out ditches on private property. He responded that the answer is no, but under the right circumstances they can. If a creek or ditch is a significant part of the City’s drainage system, then it can be cleared by the City.

Saturday afternoon, Deer Creek Disc Golf, located behind Dollar General and the storage rentals, held their grand opening in ribbon-cutting.

Disc golf is a trend that’s growing nationwide, as evidenced hereby the number of black logo shirts in the group photo.

Also attached is a short video of Bart and Yvette with “Disc Golf 101”.

Following Wednesday’s MLive article spotlighting the $60 million rumors circulating the city about the water system improvement project, the City Council quickly called a meeting for Thursday night, to discuss the issue.
