Local Man Charged with Attempted Capital Murder

A Monticello man was stabbed multiple times, and assaulted with several household “weapons” recently, after he tried to separate a man and the girlfriend that he as allegedly fighting with.
The victim received a life-changing beating, and the suspect’s charges now include Attempted Capital Murder.
County Considering “Code Red” Instead of Weather Sirens

In the years that Drew County has been chasing the seemingly illusive vision of having countywide weather and tornado sirens, it seems technology has passed by that system of weather notifications.911 co-ordinator Michael Frisby has recently been in contact with Code Red Weather Notifications, and presented his findings to the Quorum Court, Monday night.

Prosecutor Asking for Public’s Help Locating Robbery Suspect

An arrest warrant has been issued by the Chicot County Circuit Court for
a 23 year old Monticello man, for residential burglary and theft of property.
The warrant was issued in connection with the burglary of a house on West
Daniels Street in Dermott on the morning of January 8. A quantity of
firearms and electronics were stolen from the residence.

A 2 vehicle collision at the intersection of HWY 425 and Ladelle road closed both lanes of traffic, at 7:45 Thursday morning.
A southbound Chevy Trailblazer and a northbound Toyota Camry collided head-on, with the Camry reportedly catching fire after the collision.
Monticello Fire & Rescue, Lacey-Ladelle fire department, Arkansas State Police, Drew County Sheriffs deputies, and Drew County OEM responded to the scene.
Beverly Burks to file for Circuit Clerk Office

Beverly Burks of Wilmar has announced that she will be a candidate for the office of Drew County Circuit Clerk in the May Democratic primary.
Burks, 47, has been employed as a deputy in the Drew County Clerk’s office for the past year. Prior to that, she served as editor of the Advance-Monticellonian for 14 years.

A MLive reader noticed the new driving instructions painted on the City Square.
The sign says “Left lane must turn left,” but the arrow points right.
“Parking only” seems to be allowed on the left, even though parking places are on the right.
We’ll probably be covering wrecks on the square, today.
