The Monticello School District has announced Mrs. Liz Richey as their 2014  “Teacher of the Year “.

Mrs. Richey is a fourth-grade Literacy/Social Studies teacher at Monticello Intermediate School who exemplifies the qualities of a master educator.

She is married to David Richey, a Baptist minister, and they have four children: Caleb, Micah, Hannah, and Isaac.

Mrs. Richey graduated from Williams Baptist College with a BSE in Early Childhood, English and Social Studies.  She has taught in school districts in Fort Worth, Texas; Lawrence, Kansas; and northeast Arkansas

When the Richeys moved to Warren, she began working as a long-term sub in their school system.  She has been employed at Monticello Intermediate School for six years.

Mrs. Richey has high expectations for her students and will not accept anything but their best effort.  Through her gentle guidance and adherence to the standards she expects, her students strive to meet those standards and earn her approval.  Parents quickly realize that Mrs. Richey has the best interest of their child in her heart, that she is a teacher who cares and will do whatever it takes to ensure the success of her students.

The fourth grade literacy team is a close-knit group of professionals who work together collaboratively as well as collegially and Mrs. Richey is a very important member of that team.

She is a teacher who shares her ideas with others and is willing to put extra effort into making team endeavors successful.

Mrs. Richey provides the type of role model we want our children to see; she is dedicated to the teaching profession and to her students, and is a teacher who is committed to life-long learning.
