Railroad Rolling, Again, After Track Repairs

These new engines were seen crossing HWY 425, Tuesday, after the washed-out sections of track between Collins and Dermott, due to recent flooding, had been repaired.

The engines belong to a sister company of Arkansas Midland; Dallas, Garland, & Northeastern, based out of Texas. Both are subsidiaries of Genesee Wyoming Railroad.

Museum Report – Easter Traditions Around The World

Since this Sunday, March 27, is the day we celebrate Easter this year, I thought I’d share some more unknown traditions of the holiday around the world. Easter, which celebrates Jesus Christ’s life, death and resurrection, is one of the two most important holidays in Christianity today. It has been called a move able feast because it doesn’t fall on a set date every year, as most holidays do. Instead, Christian churches in the West celebrate Easter on the first Sunday following the full moon after the vernal equinox on March 21.

“Western Pines Dip” Meadowview Dr. Open to Traffic

The section of Meadowview Drive, commonly known as “Western Pines Dip” is now open for traffic, and is no longer a small spillway.

The change was made to improve drainage, as well as to reduce driver complaints.

Drive-By Shooting Leads to 2 Arrests- Bonds Set Monday

Saturday afternoon, around 1 PM, 2 subjects on East Jackson got into a verbal altercation over a street or parking area being blocked.

A short time later, the altercation led to shots being fired by both parties, with one subject being shot, on Merryde Drive.

“The Youth Minister of the Year Award was created in 2003 to honor individuals who have been outstanding in their service to young people through the youth ministry of the United Methodist Church in Arkansas.

Lori Fallon is a life-long United Methodist, who grew up in a small rural town in central Louisiana. Her career in the church launched when she completed a Disciple course, and soon after began working in the youth program at First United Methodist Church

Weird Water Videos

Simce we’ve spent so much of this week covering water, rain, and flooding; we might as well close the week out with these 2 unusual videos.

The videos include Thursday night’s broken water main, by a fire hudrant, shooting water into the middle of HWY 278 West. The other shows a flooded sewer drain on East Shelton Street, pushing water up, through a manhole cover.
