MonticelloLive to scale back for summer

June 6th, 2007 by

With summer upon us and kids home, as well as other responsibilities crying out for more attention, we’re making the hard decision to scale MonticelloLive back over the summer. We will still be accepting submissions for stories and news releases, but we will not be actively covering news events until sometime in August.

Last month was the first month that our traffic decreased…. by 5 total hits. In May, the site saw 12,450 pageviews, down from 12,455 hits in April! We continue to be grateful for your participation and help in making MonticelloLive your community site.

We’re offering 50% off on all advertising during the summer months. Just look at the advertising page and figure 1/2 off. With between 400-500 hits per day, that is still the best ad money you can spend in the area. While we expect that traffic will decrease as posting is scaled back, you may want to seriously consider placing an ad with ML over the summer.

We also encourage you to send us news stories, announcements, engagements and wedding information. Your continued participation may provide the “fix” that some MonticelloLive addicts need to get through the summer! ;)

Again, thanks for helping make this site fun and interactive! Oh, and as always, if you’d like to make a donation, you can do so by clicking the donate button on the main page.

I understand that everything can’t be published that is sent in but I have submitted news/alerts on 2 separate times only to never see them anywhere in MonticelloLive.

Do you have to be a member of your church to get items put in or is it randomly selected what is submitted and published?

You are asking for info now. What good will it do if it is only going to end up in the trash bin?

Good luck in your members supplying ALL the news….

  2. Jeff says:

    Thor/Tony,
Of course you don’t have to be a member of any church to submit stories. I don’t recall ever receiving any submissions from you, but I may have overlooked something. I apologize if you feel you’ve been slighted. It was not intentional. The greatest majority of submissions get published. You can ask anyone and perhaps tour the stats to see that there are more than 18 authors for this blog!

Also, it may interest you that of all the submissions we receive, only two regular writers are members of the church I attend and help lead, and one is my wife.

I’d encourage you to submit your stories. While we can’t promise that all submissions will be published, we try very hard to do so. It may also interest you to know that we do have to turn down some stories, most of those are because they don’t directly apply to Monticello.

  3. Josh says:

Jeff: Thanks for the great web site, and thanks for all the hard work and time that you all put into it. Of course, we hate to see it scaled back, but with kids, comes the busy summer life, and we understand.

Have a great summer, and we will look for the full return of Monticello Live in August. Thanks again for the great site.

  4. Rachel says:

    Thor,
I’ve submitted two stories and both have been published. I am not a member of the church either although I’ve been giving it some thought! The second time I tried to submit something I was given an error but was prompted to just email the submission directly. Take note of that and your request might make it to where it needs to go!

  5. Jason says:

i have posted several stories and am a member of no church.

  6. Thor says:

I have not recieived an error message. I sent it directly to the comment section on the home page, not mixed in with some story. Never saw it listed and never got a response of any kind.

I have submitted for “Just wondering Wednesday” with the exact same results…..nothing.

That is why I find it strange for ML to be pronpting stories, comments, etc. when the ones I sent were never used in the past.

Also, my comments/suggestion/stories have been concerning Monticello and our great state of Arkansas.

I realize everthing can’t be used….it just seemed to be a pattern developing and I found it strangely humorous asking for submissions. That is all I was trying to say.

  7. Well, August is behind us (okay, so *almost* behind us as there are still four hours and change left)… I know that many of us are waiting for a return to glory for Monticello Live. When can we expect it?

  8. Jeff says:

Michael, sorry to leave you hanging, but this post explains it all. Thank you so much for your support and consistent participation in the site!
