On Tuesday, the memory of Dorothy Shepherd was honored through the presentation of an Agriculture Scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Monticello’s College of Forestry, Agriculture and Natural Resources. University of Arkansas at Monticello fall 2023 new first-time freshmen and new transfer students will receive a $500 scholarship if they pre-register for fall 2023 classes on April 17 or April 18 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and attend UAM during the fall 2023 semester. Terms and conditions may apply.
In-person registration is recommended, but over-the-phone registration is also available.
Students must RSVP to reserve a time to pre-register for classes in order to be eligible for the scholarship. RSVP on the UAM Admissions webpage or here.
No program will take place during pre-registration. Students will be able to pre-register for classes and have the option to visit any office related to attending school in the fall. Parents and legal guardians are welcome.

Seven University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) students won academic awards at the Phi Beta Lambda-Collegiate Future Business Leaders of America State Leadership Conference that was held in Little Rock, Arkansas, on March 31 through April 1, 2023.
All seven UAM students who participated in the statewide competition won awards in their respective events. Five students took first place in at least one event. Two students were double majors in accounting and business administration; one student was a double major in biology and chemistry; and four students were majors in either business administration or accounting. The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) presented 322 awards to 282 fall 2022 graduates, according to information released by the UAM Registrar’s Office.

The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) named 272 students to the Dean’s List and 167 students to the Chancellor’s List for the fall 2022 semester, according to Keith Chambliss, UAM’s registrar.
Selection to the Dean’s List requires a student to earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on at least 12 semester hours of course credit at the 1000-4000 level.Selection to the Chancellor’s List requires a student to earn a grade-point average of 4.0 on at least 12 semester hours of course credit at the 1000-4000 level. The University of Arkansas at Monticello’s Agriculture auditorium was near capacity, last week, as farmers, business people, bankers, educators, and other stakeholders gathered for a listening session on the 2023 Farm Bill. The session aimed to allow the public to air their views and provide input on what should be included in the new farm legislation. The listening session featured United States Senator John Boozman and Representative Bruce Westerman, who listened to the seven panelists discuss their views on various topics, including crop insurance, conservation programs, rural development, agricultural research, and nutrition assistance programs. Much of the meeting was filled with the audience’s suggestions for the Farm Bill.

The University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) Office of Admissions will host Weevil Welcome: College Preview Day on Friday, February 24, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Registration will be held in the Fine Arts Center on UAM’s Monticello campus.
Prospective high school juniors and seniors are invited to attend the event to learn more about programs of study at UAM, financial aid and new scholarship opportunities, residence life and more.
High school seniors who have already applied to UAM are encouraged to attend the event to meet with faculty, staff and current UAM students. Parents are also welcome to attend.

Animal Science Assistant Professor Maribel Nelson has volunteered to monitor this year’s lambing season. So far, the 2nd year herd has delivered a dozen new lambs.
Members of the project team participate in a discussion regarding the USDA Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities grant.
On December 16, Dr. Homer Wilkes, Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment at the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), met with faculty from the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) and the Arkansas Forest Resources Center (AFRC) of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture housed at UAM to award them a grant for $3.7 million. The meeting took place at Five Oaks Ag Research and Education Center in Humphrey, Arkansas, where part of the work for the project will be conducted.(more…)

Marketing research students at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) entered a Student Research Symposium hosted by the UAM Department of Social Work. The group submitted a poster titled “Student Perceptions of Big Data, Privacy Concerns, and Data Disclosure” that won the People’s Choice award.
The marketing study surveyed students at UAM to access if their awareness of big data, as well as data disclosure, influenced their privacy concerns. Through the research, respondents indicated that perceived vulnerability positively influenced privacy concerns, and privacy concerns positively influenced self-disclosure concerns among the students surveyed. If people think their information is vulnerable on a website, their privacy concerns go up leading to an increase in their self-disclosure concerns. (more…)
