Current exhibits at the Glassblock Gallery in the UAM Taylor Library showcase the artwork of senior art majors from Southeast Arkansas. Kaitlyn Carrico of Hamburg and KeyAira M. Assistant Nursing Professor Jamie Palmer was named to the Arkansas Center for Nursing’s 2019 list of 40 Nurse Leaders Under 40.
Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge visited the UAM campus Friday for a regional law enforcement training hosted by her office.
Rutledge and dozens of law enforcement officers were on site as part of the first-ever training event of its kind hosted in south Arkansas. (more…)
Area high school students competed in the regional rounds of the National History Day Contest in March at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Several competitors will advance to the statewide contest this month where they will attempt to qualify for the national event. Now in its 45th year, the National History Day Contest provides students an opportunity to develop critical thinking and source analysis skills while gaining historical perspective. (more…)

The UAM Chapter of Psi Chi, the international honor society for psychology, recently received the Southwest Region’s “model chapter award” for 2018. The recognition is granted to a chapter in each of the six regions of Psi Chi whose members best exemplify the organization’s purpose. Psi Chi’s stated purpose is “to encourage, stimulate and maintain excellence in scholarship, and to advance the science of the psychology. Psi Chi is one of the largest honor societies in the world, with more than 1,200 active chapters. In addition to a plaque and bragging rights, the model chapter also earns a monetary award. (more…)
The University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology at McGehee will host a four-week Nursing Assistant course beginning in May as part of the Career Pathways program. The training is open to individuals eligible to participate Career Pathways. Eligibility requires participants to have a child under the age of 21, to be seeking short-term career or academic training, and to be a current recipient of governmental assistance. (more…)
A student-organized candlelight vigil will be held Thursday, March 28, to honor the memory of Officer Iciephine Green. Green, a University of Arkansas at Monticello Police Officer, died March 13 after an automobile accident on Arkansas Highway 530. (more…)

The internationally recognized UAM Jazz Band attended the Elmhurst National Jazz Festival this past weekend at Elmhurst College. The UAM band competed against 28 other bands from across the country. The band won 7 individual honors, the most for any UAM band, and again received the Outstanding Band Award at the competition. (more…)

The University of Arkansas at Monticello will be closed on Monday, January 21, 2019, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. All classes and offices will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, January 22, 2019.
UAM Student Programs and Activities will be honoring Dr. King’s legacy by hosting a dinner on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, from 5 pm to 7 pm. The buffet-style dinner will be held in the Gibson University Center’s Green Room. The price for dinner is $10.15 per person which will be collected at the door. All students with a university meal plan can eat free of charge. UAM’s Vice Chancellor for Student Engagements, Dr. Moses Goldmon, will be the guest speaker at the event.

UAM Professor Tom Richard was recognized as the 2018 Higher Education Educator of the Year at the awards ceremony of the Arkansas Art Educators Association Conference on November 1, 2018 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Dr. Peggy Doss, UAM’s Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs said, “Mr. Richard is so very deserving of this award that recognizes his outstanding talent and his distinguished service to the profession. He has long been dedicated to the advancement of art education at the university, in the community and the state.” (more…)
Clinton D. Young, Associate Professor of History at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has been recognized by the American Musicological Society for his scholarship. His first book, Music Theater and Popular Nationalism in Spain, 1880-1930, received the Robert M. Stevenson Award at the recent annual meeting of the AMS in San Antonio, Texas. (more…)

Karen Hyatt, Assistant Professor of Nursing at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has been selected to serve a two-year term as a state consultant on the board of directors of the Arkansas Nursing Students’ Association (ANSA). Dr. Brandy Haley, Dean of the UAM School of Nursing stated, “We are honored to have one of our faculty members hold a state board position representing UAM.” (more…)
Today the University of Arkansas at Monticello Music Theater Workshop announced it will present two one-act operas, The Old Maid and the Thief by Gian-Carlo Menotti and A Little Nightmare Music by P. D. Q. Bach. The performance will begin at 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday, November 16th and 17th at the UAM Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Both one-act operas will be performed both nights. Admission is free for UAM students, faculty and staff as well as children under 12. Tickets for students 12 through high school cost $5; adults $10. (more…)
