The MHS class of 1957 held their reunion, this past weekend.

Everyone who attended had a great time, and will share many new memories of the event with friends and relatives.

An unusual sight took place on HWY 425 South, early last week, as a circus carnival was traveling, north, through town.

The convoy of amusement rides stopped at EZ-Mart, for fuel and snacks, providing a unique photograph.

This Vietnam era Huey military helicopter landed at Ellis Field, Friday morning, around 11 am.

The chopper had seen military action overseas, before recently being refurbished in Arizona.

The Huey is one of at least 7 that are being transferred to Florida, where they will be re-sold, possible back to another governmental agency, for use scouting fires or other events in the US, or flown back overseas.

An 18-wheeler from Batesville “threw a drive-shaft”, around 6 pm, near EX-Mart North. shutting down the McCloy & Hyatt Street intersection.

Reliable Towing pulled the big-rig out of the highway, opening up traffice.

MPD, DCSO, and a State Trooper were seen assisting traffic, which was detoured uto North Hyatt.

Early last week, this scene from the past was noticed traveling through Monticello.

A wide variety of “bikes and trikes” were on display, Saturday, as a group of Christian Motorcycle Association members from several communities in Ashley County took their “lunch run,”  as they visited Ray’s for their monthly gathering.

The family of the late Bobbie Lambert, with the assistance of Christian Brothers Funeral Home, followed the traditionas style of funeral processions, for her memorial service, Saturday, as the horse and carraige left Pilgrim Rest AME Church, traveling toward Mt. Zion Cemetary..

These photos were taken Monday evening of 2013’s third “Super Moon”.

A “Super Moon” is described as a new or full moon, which occurs with the moon at or near (within 90% of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.

This barn and field of cut hay was seen on HWY 278 West, in Monticello.

This photo, taken east of Monticello, show an old wooden bridge, that is still in use..  Now, that’s country.

The bridge is a private drive or a farm access road, near a paved highway.  It’s not on a county road.

A MLive reader took this photo of the clouds, while on their way to the Rock Springs fireworks show.

He recognized the red, white, and blue stripes in the clouds in the sky.

The Drew County Historical Society is hosting a special viewing of the AETN program Bayou Bartholomew on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Forest Resources Conference Center, Room A102. Chuck Dovish of AETN and Curtis Merrell of the Bayou Bartholomew Alliance will be on hand to answer questions about the program. Two years in the making, the one-hour documentary on the world’s longest bayou, was supported by the efforts of local researchers, the Drew County Archives and the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

Madelynn Gates has been chosen as a Razorback Cheerleader for the 2013-2014 season.

This will be Madelynn’s 2nd year to cheer for the University of Arkansas.

Wednesday afternoon, a Taxi from Hot Springs was delivering a fare to the Calhoun Street area.

That may not be a news item, but the bright yellow paint sure drew attention.

Monticello hasn’t had a taxi service in several years, but that might be a good business venture, for someone to consider.

The computer tech was installing cash registers at Roscoe’s Friday.

The shirt he was wearing was one I’d never seen before, so I asked if I could take this photo…..

Remember the old “one of these things doesn’t belong here” line from Sesame Street?

That seems to be the case, as a loaded log truck was photographed turning from East Shelton St. onto S. Main, recently.

Cherry Street is open to log trucks.  Old Dermott is not.  Shelton  St. appears to fall into that “undecided” category.
