My daughter was complaining just yesterday that not everyone knows what to do at a 4-way stop. I am glad that this does not look like her writing.
This is News worthy? BUT, a follow-up story on Clean-Up our city was not. Between myself, my neighbors, sister & her kids we cleaned up 27 wheel-barrels of dirt from the street in front of the Prosecuting Attorney’s office but that wasn’t worthy of a write up? Yet someone can deface our downtown area that our city has been working so diligently on to clean up and you can show this. Really? Who deems what is News worthy & what is not? Maybe we need a committee on this!!!
Who did this and why? How childish!!
it may seem childlish to some people but think about it theese old stop signs take this city back 40 years this stop and go is for the birds monticello can do better than this traffic backs up to gabbert st on one end and the bank on other end try going through town at 5 oclock in the afternoon i hate theese stop and go besides it takes more gas
and they are ugly too mr mayor take gown thoses signs
I think this is very newsworthy, if only it would do some good!!! The red stop signs certainly don’t get people to stop so maybe the homemade pink ones will!! Think I will post some at the 4-ways of Hyatt & College, Hyatt & Bolling, Bolling & Borchardt…this list goes on. Cars are constantly running these stop signs! I just know one day my kids are going to get hit. Running stop signs in this town is a HUGE problem so post all the pink ones you want, I’ll lend you some nails!!!!!
Yeah, and remind drivers to use their turn signals, dim their lights and drive the speed limit; all optional in Monticello.

MyAuntlulu,you act like you need a pat on the back.You want a trophy?You say you help out this community,but then you get mad when people are not writing about you doing it.You are doing it for all the wrong reasons.Many of us help keep this beautiful City clean and we ask for no pat on the back.If you are going to whine and complain about articles like this then we dont need your help keeping Monticello clean!

If you want to clean up this town start fining all the people who leave up the rummage sale signs 50 dollars for every one left two days after their rummage sale.
While I am on my complaining mode let me ask this. Why do people plant trees under power lines? Ten years later the power company has to gouge them by cutting them off the line or else the power goes out with a little breeze.
Oh and get rid of the rail road cars down town. What is hiding behind them?
I havent heard of a bad accident being at the 4 way stop signs and the traffic in Monticello is bad every place. I just think its ridculous for someone to cover up stop signs with a neon pink poster. If there is a problem then maybe the people that work for the city should put up a traffic light rather than trashing our town with putting up a silly poster.
i like the old school feel of the stop signs but this town is way to large with too much traffic to have stop signs up! its a danger to everyone car drivers and too people walking!!
There are stop signs in every city whats the big deal? At 5 oclock traffic on 425 will back up for a mile when all the schools turn out
If you think Monticello is a clean city, you need to visit the Alabama gulf coast and then you can see what a clean city and county really looks like. On my last visit to Monticello & Drew County, the sides of the streets and highways had trash everywhere.
Chris Bradley you can bet the next time this city needs cleaning up I WILL NOT be volunteering my time and back to assist. It’s ignorance like yours that keeps the goods citizens locked in their homes and minding their business ignoring what goes on around them and allowing this town to stay in the dark ages. You people just want to attack someone for voicing their opinion. Of course, if you had volunteered your time and the backs of your nieces, nephews & neighborhood kids, maybe it would have been an issue with you that someone went around taking their pics but never followed up with the story. The kids looked forward to that story because of they were photographed. We all volunteered because it was the right thing to do. We take pride in our city and don’t go around hanging ugly signs to get a point across. People speed up & down my street, but I’m not making signs reminding them what the speed limit is….
i lived by jackson & shelton, it just not 1 that dont stop, more like 100 a day, some are going 60 miles a hour. also on s speer, it all the time, they go up to 70 miles a hour all the way to boiling st. today and all the time a small black pickup, the windsheld is broken, no tags, he dont stop r look he going to fast!!!
lol okay so the signs arent beutiful or anything but i hardly think they are making the square ugly i tell you what will deface the beutiful square that our city has worked hard to make beutiful a wreck that causes more damage than the one that took out the light i mean come on if you have a real problem with the signs then take them down or make your own statment
as far as childish one part of freedom of speach to an ability to make a statement what have you done that people are talking about i am not done you will see more of my opinion have fun complaining about my childish statements and the more you talk the more my purpose will be met as far as chick who needs people to be so proud of her for cleaning up monticello i get out there too and i want this town to stay beutiful and all i am trying to do is help the great people of this town to realize how much of a problem this is
As a worker on the square I see and understand the pink signs. I have witnessed so many near missies. Its going to be a horrible wreck up there because of the stop signs. I’ve seen 18wheelers just roll right through the stop sign as people are in the cross walks. If one car is stopped & when its there time to go that car go & the one behind it will go. If you work on the square 8hrs a day you will be speechless, nervous, scared & amazed to see how traffic flows
Myauntlulu’s named changed with post since she posted her real name and the same type of comment on the ML Facebook page. Maybe she will get the praise she is begging for. If you need a pat on the back for cleaning up 27 wheel barrel loads of stuff then don’t do it let the others that do things to help the community because they wont to help. Even though you have deleted your childish comments you posted on FB there is plenty people that screen shot it so don’t worry its already out there what you said. Stay out of peoples personal lives & GROW UP or get an etch e sketch to play on instead of being so juvenile posting negative comments about something that’s none your business.
Thank you Joe for posting this, maybe it will get something changed with the stop signs before someone loses their life.

Maybe our police officers should patrol the square and start writing tickets to the drivers breaking the law and then the city could make enough money for our Mayor to decide the stop lights are indeed a needed thing!!
I thought one of the issues during the mayoral election was that the stop lights would be placed back on the square. It is very hard to get out of one of the side streets during the day because of the traffic issue. I was looking forward to the stop lights being re-installed. Guess this is just another campaign promise that did not come to be!
It always seems that all the ignorant drama mama’s come out to attack….. Well, someone needs to start standing up for the victims of these horrible, bored, need to get life people.
Joe, you should be ashamed for posting the picture to begin with. You’re just giving voice to stupidity. Secondly for allowing these hate mongers to be seen. Just because you’re guilty doesn’t give you the right to allow attack. Clean up your act along with the town.
I personally have been almost hit at both of the stop signs on the square due to other drivers not knowing or caring what the right-of-way is. I have a 17 year old daughter that I constantly have to remind not only to be a careful driver but to watch all the others that got their license out of a cracker jack box! Some say the pink signs are childish but look at the attention that they have received! To whom ever put them up, GOOD JOB! Now maybe the city officials will take notice and do what was promised and put the lights back up!
how did a story about pink signs and stop signs become a topic about trash on the sides of the road in monticello and drew county and a pitty party started by lulu begging for attention because she did a lil pick up a block or so away from the square then end up with joe needing to be ashamed of himself?… i must have missed something!!
Hey “Get A Life”, take your own advice from your name. In case you didn’t notice, this is a NEWS site. Joe is doing his job, which is reporting the news. Quite a few of us are grateful for it too. He lets us know what’s going on in this town instead of trying to hide things. Don’t yell at him for doing what he is supposed to!!!!
Please get off of joes back i mean he takes pictures and post the things he does for a reason people were calling him trying to get info on this and so he put it here if my signs are stupid then i suppose you should just stop at the stop signs it is the right thing to do i wonder if the people who think my signs are stupid are the very ones running them everyday.
And what about those cross walks do you people realize that the pedestrians have the right of way at a cross walk thats why they are there i am suppose to be able to walk around the square with ease and without fear for my life but just today i got honked at and flipped off for crossing the street because i made a car wait on me
like i said i am not finished making my statement please keep an eye out for more of my more public anouncements of what i think needs to be changed
i have gone through the correct channels and nothing in being done so now i am taking more drastic measures and untill the big wigs of this town realize they cannot continue to spend my tax money on crap this town doesnt need

maybe the signs will help…..as far as law goes ….Re read Arkansas drivers handbook…pedestrians have the right of way ….if driving to fast and hit someone attempting to cross..the driver can be sued.
as for the people stated above that volunteered to help our fair city…Im sorry you did not get the attention you deserved for doing so……Thank you from me and others who really do care and appreciate what was done.
If we are going to talk about safety concerns how about all of the people that drive when raining, drive at dawn and or drive at dusk without headlights on? They are a huge concern and should be addressed.
The stop signs have been there for while now how many wrecks has there been? In the same length of time how many wrecks has there been at the red light at walmart? If all you have to do is complain about a stop sign you must have a boring life.
In my opinion, this story doesn’t deserve accreditation all it’s doing is fueling this persons fire as stated by the sign maker. Go through the proper channels to accomplish progress, if you don’t like the way our town is run, how about running for an office but defacing our town is not a good option.
As for our volunteers, these stories should be covered. The event afore mentioned was very poorly attended but those that did participate did a great job.
It just amazes me the amount of hate & ridicule that our fellow towns people will cast upon someone that evidently has tried to give to our community.
To the people that DO volunteer, you are appreciated & our town needs more of you. Thank you for all you do.
my stars now dont the city understand we want stop lights put back where they were where is the insurance money from the werecked lights what was that money used for it sure didnot cost that much for the signs that we have now also where are the city workers dont they see allthe signs down on borchart and college streets this sign has been on the ground over 2 years city workers pass by the corner every day and never stop to put it back up where is the mayor check it out
I am within my rights as per the constitution. I understand that the signs may be unorthadox but let me ask just a few questions. How many near miss do you think there will be before something bad happens? And will it take something bad to happen before changes will be made? I get that there hasnt been an accident and believe me the problems on the square are not the only things I have issue with however it was in fact the most strategic place to make a statement. I love this town born and raised here. For the information of those who may not have seen the signs they did not cover up the stop signs. I dont know any body tall enough to do that nor would I have done that. As far as defacing the square then I suppose all of the yard sale posters deface the whole city. I mean its one thing for them to be up a day or two before the sale and during the sale but a month after please go take it down. As far as going through the proper channels I have done that and havent seen anything to be done.
There has been no progress on any of the issues and I know for a fact I am not the only person with these issues or the only one who has said or done something about it. I am also not the only one who is apart of the scandle we are all talking about but I will be the only one taking blame if caught. However I am within my right as I have said. I am not sure what else I can say on this matter.
While we are at it PUT STOP LIGHTS AT FRED’S, SONIC, GRACE!!!!
