The Director of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission removed all daily sportfish limits and length limits on Lake Monticello for all species of fish in an emergency proclamation as a result of the recent decision by the City of Monticello to drain the lake for repairs to its dam. (more…)

When a member of the Public Defender’s office stopped by their office, Saturday evening, to pick up a file, they found the building ramsacked, window blinds destroyed, tables turned over, and files strew all over the desks and floor.
A trail of mischief led them to a back office where the masked suspect was found sleeping in the corner of another room.

Dr. and Mrs. Jerry Webb of the Bowser Community had a surprise visitor show up in their pond a few weeks ago. While feeding the fish one day (something he has done every day for over 30 years) Dr. Webb noticed an odd set of eyes staring at him from the opposite side of the pond.
In June, the Game & Fish Commission were called to help capture a live alligator on Alma Street, in the western portion of Dermott, not far from the Drew County line.

This video of an alligator being captured, taken near Lake Wallace in May, 2011, has been views almost 3,000 times.
Another alligator was found in August near Tillar.

This alligator was captured near Lake Wallace in May. An alligator may not be worthy of the #35 story of 2011, but this video ha been viewed over 2,300 times.
Around 5:20, Monday morning, this alligator, estimated to be approximately 6 ft. long, was found crossing HWY 277, near Tillar.
The gator’s presence prompted a phone call to the Monticello Police Dispatch, who sent a Drew County Sheriff’s deputy to the scene.
The gator was safely taken into custody by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission.

Another alligator, estimated to be 9 feet in length, was captured by AG&F officers in May, while trying to cross HWY 165, south of Dermott, in the Lake Wallace area of Drew County. Drew County Sheriff’s deputies were also present.
The video of the May alligator capture has been viewed over 2,000 times on MLive.
Captured alligators are generally re-located to an appropriate habitat, where they will not be around people.
Shortly after Thursday night’s thunderstorn, a small alligator was seen crossing East McCloy Street by Drew County Deputy Steven Mitchell, near the city warehouse around midnight.
The alligator, estimated to measure around 2 1/2 foot long, was detained by city employee Charlie Hammock, with local law authorities present, and turned over to the Arkansas Game & Fish Commision.
