2021 graduates of the Associate Degree Registered Nursing program at the University of Arkansas at Monticello recently achieved a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN examination. According to test results released by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing, UAM had the only associate degree nursing program out of 18 two-year programs in Arkansas to achieve a 100% pass rate. “We are certainly pleased with these results and happy for our graduates,” said Dr. Brandy Haley, Dean of the UAM School of Nursing. “It’s an indication of the quality of the students we have in our program and speaks to the quality of our faculty and their efforts to ensure that all of our graduates have a chance to be successful.”

We all start somewhere. As an educator, Dr. James Guldin started his forestry education journey here at the University of Arkansas at Monticello at the School of Forestry. The sojourn ended last month, 38 years later, with his induction to the Arkansas Division of the Ouachita Chapter of the Society of American Foresters Hall of Fame. Guldin received the award on August 31 at the Vines Center in Ferndale.

The sixth UAM Kids’ University will be held Monday through Thursday, July 12-15, 2021. The summer enrichment program carries out a mission of serving capable and motivated students who are entering 1st through 6th grades in the fall. The day camp aims to cultivate new interests, expand knowledge, and spark imagination and creativity in a non-graded environment for children. The morning session is for students entering grades 1 – 3, and will be held from 9 a.m. – noon. The afternoon session is for students entering grades 4 – 6 and will be held from 1 – 5 p.m. An early drop-off option is available for both sessions.
A new option is available this year: participants can choose to attend one, two, three, or all four days of Kids’ University. (more…)

Local healthcare providers distributed 553 COVID-19 vaccines across three University of Arkansas at Monticello campuses in the first week of February. From Monday through Thursday of last week, university employees were able to receive vaccinations facilitated by Mainline Health Systems, City Drug, and the Prescription Pad Pharmacy in Monticello, Crossett and McGehee. The University of Arkansas at Monticello, the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and the Five Oaks Ag Research and Education Center on Wednesday announced a partnership for forestry and wildlife research and a graduate certificate program in conservation, property and land management.
The agreement was announced following a signing ceremony at the Five Oaks Duck Lodge south of Stuttgart. (more…)

University of Arkansas at Monticello Chancellor Dr. Peggy Doss announced today that Crystal Halley has been named the UAM Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Halley graduated from UAM Summa Cum Laude in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. She earned a Juris Doctorate from the William H. Bowen School of Law at UALR in 2007. (more…)
University of Arkansas at Monticello students recently elected their 2020-2021 Student Activities Board (SAB) and Student Government Association (SGA) representatives through an online voting system. SAB members Courtney Hicks, Caleb Stewart, Chase Marra and Emily Hand have started holding board meetings to plan activities that safely engage and excite students in what is an extremely unusual program year for the board. The Arkansas Farm Bureau Scholarship Foundation Committee has named the 13 recipients of the $3,000 Farm Bureau scholarships for the 2020-21 school year.
Scholarship recipients are Arkansas residents, members of a Farm Bureau family and enrolled as juniors or seniors in pursuit of an agriculture-related degree at a state-accredited university.

The southeastern United States is home to a remarkable and diverse mammalian fauna that is a significant part of the region’s rich natural heritage. John Hunt, a Professor of Biology at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has co-authored a book on these animals, entitled Mammals of the Southeastern United States. The book, which was co-written by Troy Best of Auburn University, was recently released. (more…)
UAM Chancellor Peggy Doss has appointed Dan Boice, director of the Taylor Library, to facilitate the university’s ongoing strategic planning process. Dr. Doss said, “The UAM strategic plan must be a ‘living’ document that is constantly reviewed to ensure we meet the ever-changing needs of our university, our students, and the state and region we serve. It is at the heart of our institution and is our navigation system. Boice will involve faculty, staff, students and the community.
The University of Arkansas at Monticello announced Tuesday the creation of the Chancellor’s Focus Group for Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. The committee of 12 will bring together members from many areas of the university community to discuss and collaborate in ongoing outreach initiatives and make recommendations to the University Executive Council. The focus group will promote a greater inclusive learning and living community on the university’s three campuses. (more…)
