UAM Holds COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics

Local healthcare providers distributed 553 COVID-19 vaccines across three University of Arkansas at Monticello campuses in the first week of February. From Monday through Thursday of last week, university employees were able to receive vaccinations facilitated by Mainline Health Systems, City Drug, and the Prescription Pad Pharmacy in Monticello, Crossett and McGehee. The University of Arkansas at Monticello, the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture and the Five Oaks Ag Research and Education Center on Wednesday announced a partnership for forestry and wildlife research and a graduate certificate program in conservation, property and land management.

The agreement was announced following a signing ceremony at the Five Oaks Duck Lodge south of Stuttgart. (more…)

Dr. Phil Tappe has announced he will retire from his post as the University of Arkansas at Monticello Dean of the College of Forestry, Agriculture, and Natural Resources and the Director of the U of A System Division of Agriculture’s Forest Resources Center. Crystal Halley Named UAM Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

HallyUAMUniversity of Arkansas at Monticello Chancellor Dr. Peggy Doss announced today that Crystal Halley has been named the UAM Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Halley graduated from UAM Summa Cum Laude in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. She earned a Juris Doctorate from the William H. Bowen School of Law at UALR in 2007. (more…)

UAMSGAUniversity of Arkansas at Monticello students recently elected their 2020-2021 Student Activities Board (SAB) and Student Government Association (SGA) representatives through an online voting system. SAB members Courtney Hicks, Caleb Stewart, Chase Marra and Emily Hand have started holding board meetings to plan activities that safely engage and excite students in what is an extremely unusual program year for the board. UAM Students Awarded Farm Bureau Scholarships

Farm bureauThe Arkansas Farm Bureau Scholarship Foundation Committee has named the 13 recipients of the $3,000 Farm Bureau scholarships for the 2020-21 school year.

Scholarship recipients are Arkansas residents, members of a Farm Bureau family and enrolled as juniors or seniors in pursuit of an agriculture-related degree at a state-accredited university.

UAM Professor Publishes Book On Mammals

UAMBookOnAnimalsThe southeastern United States is home to a remarkable and diverse mammalian fauna that is a significant part of the region’s rich natural heritage.  John Hunt, a Professor of Biology at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has co-authored a book on these animals, entitled Mammals of the Southeastern United States.  The book, which was co-written by Troy Best of Auburn University, was recently released.  (more…)

UAM Begins New Strategic Plan

Boice-UAMUAM Chancellor Peggy Doss has appointed Dan Boice, director of the Taylor Library, to facilitate the university’s ongoing strategic planning process. Dr. Doss said, “The UAM strategic plan must be a ‘living’ document that is constantly reviewed to ensure we meet the ever-changing needs of our university, our students, and the state and region we serve. It is at the heart of our institution and is our navigation system. Boice will involve faculty, staff, students and the community.

UAM Chancellor Appoints Focus Group for Racial Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

The committee of 12 will bring together members from many areas of the university community to discuss and collaborate in ongoing outreach initiatives and make recommendations to the University Executive Council. The focus group will promote a greater inclusive learning and living community on the university’s three campuses. (more…)

University of Arkansas at Monticello Announces Plans for State’s First Musician-Only Residence Hall

UAMRoyerHallThe University of Arkansas at Monticello announced Thursday that it would be host to the state’s first dedicated Music Residence Hall. Royer Hall, a 1967 residence hall on the Monticello campus will reopen in August as a co-ed living-and-learning community exclusively for students enrolled in choral and instrumental music courses. UAM School of Nursing Recieves $150,000 Blue & You Grant; Will be Presented Friday

Interfor 444 Good newsUAM-Nursing-2The University of Arkansas at Monticello School of Nursing secured a $150,000 grant from the Blue & You Foundation, which will be presented at an event Friday on the UAM campus. The grant was one of 40 selected across the state out of more than 260 applicants. “Our grants this year went to programs across the state that address issues and needs that organizations have identified as important to their communities. These include physical and mental health programs for all ages, opportunities to participate in exercise and good nutrition, and building the future medical workforce that will care for all of our citizens,” said Patrick O’Sullivan, executive director of the Blue & You Foundation.

She will join fellows from the seven other Delta states to participate in the 10-month DLI Executive Academy to help further her skills in community leadership, policy development, and regional collaboration to drive economic growth across the Mississippi River Delta and Alabama Black Belt regions.

“Shifting Monuments”, an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Felicia Leach can be viewed in the Glassblock Gallery in the Taylor Library at UAM through October 10, 2019.

By layering time through transfer, tracing, and gesture until the totality of the event is recorded within a stable image, Felicia Leach’s paintings and drawings become the modality of time, perception, and production that reveal and conceal the flux within a particular place.

The University of Arkansas at Monticello announced this week the university’s first operational endowment, which will benefit its art department. Alumnus Waymond Teague has presented a $100,000 gift in memory of his wife Barbara Ozment Teague, also a graduate. (more…)

UAM to Hold Grand Opening for Weevil House of Garments Thursday

uam_article_default_thumbUAM announces the grand opening event for a new student resource, the Weevil House of Garments (WHOG). WHOG will officially open Thursday, September 26 at 12:00 p.m. Professional attire will be housed in the facility for current students to access at no cost. The Thursday event is open to the public.

The project began when a need was identified for students to have appropriate clothing for job interviews, professional events, and in the workforce. Chancellor Karla Hughes explained, “Any time we see a barrier to our students succeeding, I want to know we can address it. Emily Ashley and Renea McClendon came to me to see how we could provide this resource to our students, and the Weevil House of Garments was born.”

UAM Masters Of Fine Arts Named #6 Program In The Nation

uam_article_default_thumbThe University of Arkansas at Monticello has been named as one of the nation’s best online Master’s in Creative Writing degree programs on TheBestSchools.org for 2019. According to TheBestSchools.org, their team reviewed all accredited online Master’s in Creative Writing degree programs in the U.S., and UAM earned sixth place in a list topped by Harvard University. UAM Seniors Present Art Exhibits

Current exhibits at the Glassblock Gallery in the UAM Taylor Library showcase the artwork of senior art majors from Southeast Arkansas. Kaitlyn Carrico of Hamburg and KeyAira M.
