image10 local business, community, and economic leaders from Monticello have just returned from Washington DC, where they met with our state’s senators and congressmen, seeking federal support for local projects.

imageProjects included I-530, I-69, and the need for a new science building at UAM.

MEDC’s Bennie Ryburn III considers the trip a success, “We met with a lot of good people that offered to assist us in the search for funding for the issues and projects that we presented to them. ”

Local Agent Recognized At Statewide Meeting

7043 DrewBradley MZiemanMike Zieman, LUTCF, of Monticello was recognized at the Farm Bureau Statewide Agents and Agency Managers meeting March 13 for his total performance during 2013. Zieman received the Master Producer award for his outstanding insurance production. He also received the Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance Company-Leadership Council award.

Arkansas Farm Bureau is a nonprofit, private farm and rural advocacy organization of more than 195,000 families throughout the state working to improve farm and rural life.

Gloria Dunbar Ross was born on November 26,1945 in Lake Village, Arkansas to the late Rufus Dunbar Sr. and Thelma Dunbar. Gloria departed this life on March 17, 2014 and went on to be with the Lord and Savior,Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her father,mother,and one brother.She leaves to cherish he memory, her loving husband, Eddie Ross of Portland, Ar. Five daughters: Felecia Broussard (Jackie), Belinda Johnson(Aaron), Monica Miles(Wesley) Melechia Miles(Kenneth) all of Houston, Texas. Nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, and a host of neices, nephews,cousins,and friends. Services will Saturday, March 22nd,2014 at 11:00 a.m.at Central Community Baptist Church in Lake Village, Arkansas. More Details Released in Capital Murder Case from Friday Night

Other testimony was presented by Arkansas State Police investigators during Monday’s first appearance hearing for Jonathan Woods, age 31 of Warren, who is charged for the capital murder shooting death of Samantha Poole, Friday night in Monticello.

Special Agent Matt Roberson testified that several witnesses saw the events that took place in and around Save-a-lot that night, March 14, around 7:20 pm,

Water System Groundbreaking Ceremony – Video

Monday’s groundbreaking ceremony was used as an occaision to begin the new improvment to city water service, move into the “electronic age”, with remote meter reading, and also a tribute to Mayor Allen Maxwell, who died last week. Many of Mayor Maxwell’s family members took part in Monday’s ceremony.
