The Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting at James Insurance Agency’a new office at 324 Highway 425 South, Tuesday.
The event served as both a Chamber Morning Coffee and Grand Re-Opening of the agency in their new location.
Drew Central Jr. Band performed at the Arkansas Association of Middle Level Education Annual Professional Development Conference at the Hot Springs Convention Center. Under the direction of John Kloap.
The annual Meals for Seniors walk-a-thon was held in late April at City Park.
This is one event of the national fundraiser held during March and April benefiting the meals program at the Monticello Senior Citizens Center.

She is the daughter of Jessica Huneycutt and Brian Foshee.

This residence, located on HWY 278, near Cherry St., was destroyed by fire around 3:30, Thursday morning.
The vacant structure was fully engulfed in flames when the Monticello Fire Dept. arrived on the scene.
The house was being dismantled before the fire.

Around 4:25 PM, Wednesday afternoon, Monticello Police dispatch received a call reporting a motorcycle striking the rear of the Drew Cental school bus at intersection of HWY 425 & 278.
2 local convenience store clerks were recently arrested by Monticello Police officers for allegedly using information gained from customers credit cards, for their own benefit.
A 46 year old Drew County lady lost her life, in a 2 vehicle car crash, around 3:40 Monday afternoon, north of Houston, TX.

Drew Central fourth grade students in Eva Arrington’s class learned about “Cephalopods: The Jet Set.” Students learned to classify by kingdom, phylum, and class. They worked with their lab partner and researched the four main types of cephalopods: octopus, squid, cuttlefish, and nautilus. Cephalopod means head and feet. Cephalopods do not have a torso.
The Distance Learning program at Drew Central Elementary in conjunction with the Alaska Sealife Center in Seward, Alaska guided students on dissecting squid. Students discovered the ink sac which squids use to confuse their enemies. They located the eyes, mouth, two tentacles, pen, etc. Students looked for the reproductive system to determine if their squid was a male or female. Another discovery was that squids have bilateral symmetry.
Monticello Occupational Education Center (OEC) students traveled to Hot Springs April 14 – 16 to participate in the Arkansas SkillsUSA competition. SkillsUSA is a national organization for students preparing for technical, skilled and service occupations in high schools and colleges/technical schools. The event is held annually and is hosted by Arkansas industries and the Arkansas SkillsUSA Organization.
A decision has been reached in dealing with the Monticello High School students involved in Wednesday night’s student pranks, which bordered on vandalism.
