Chambers Pleads ”No Contest” to Falsifying Records in Second Chance Fur Dogs Case

Andrea Chambers, a longtime participant in the local nonprofit dog rescue organization, Second Chance Fur Dogs, pleaded “no contest” to a reduced charge, Wednesday, of misdemeanor “falsifying business records,” in dealing with missing funds, while she was the group’s treasurer.

Judge Robert Gibson sentenced Chambers to one year of unsupervised probation, and ordered her “not to handle any cash for any nonprofit,” while she is on probation.

Chambers also agreed to make a $1500 “donation” to the Second Chance charity.

MPD’s investigator testified that Chambers allegedly received $15,000 in funds to purchase a van for the charity. Documentation only shows that $12,000 was spent on the van. The investigation was not able to confirm where the other $3000 went to.

Desha/Drew County Cattleman’s Association January 2025 Meeting Notes

Cow The Desha/Drew County Cattleman’s Association met at 6:30 pm at the UAM Agriculture Building on January 16,2025. The delicious Meatloaf supper was sponsored by Joplin Regional Stockyards. Joplin Regional Stockyards also provided the speakers for the night. Joe Western and Matt ran a question and answer session for producers. They gave advice on preconditioning, listed Joplin Regionals advantages over its competitors, and filled members in on markets. Producers also got to become familiar with the system of receiving stations Joplin Regional has across the state. The speakers finished with positive reports for the future. The main business of the meeting was the decision to donate funds to go towards the UAM Ag Alumni Society scholarship. President Cater Adjourned the meeting.

UAM Professors Host STEM Program for Middle School Students

Students receive certificates after completing a scavenger hunt as part of plant detective training in the UAM Plant Biotechnology Laboratory.

The School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) recently hosted an educational outreach event, welcoming over 50 fifth and sixth grade students and staff members from Arkansas Lighthouse Charter School in Jacksonville, Arkansas, to learn about key concepts in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).

During the visit, the group participated in various presentations, discussions and hands-on activities led by UAM faculty. These sessions provided students with the opportunity to explore topics such as plant biotechnology, natural sciences and astronomy. Read the rest of this entry »
