DCHS Virtual, Next Week. Other Grades on Campus

Due to the large number of faculty and staff members, as well as students, that are isolated or quarantined at Drew Central High School, ALL high school students will pivot to virtual next week (Nov.30-Dec.4, 2020).

DCHS Teachers and staff who are not isolated or quarantined should report to the school for the work day. Mr. Pennington and I will be reviewing extracurricular events for the week to determine which ones we have personnel to supervise students but more importantly the safety and welfare of our Pirates.

If the elementary or middle school statuses change, you will be notified as soon as possible.

County Schedule for Thanksgiving

The Drew County Courthouse & Road Department will be closed on Wednesday, November 25, Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27, in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.

No trash routes will run these days. Monday and Tuesday routes will run as normal.

No community dumpsters will be put out this year due to the abuse of overfilling and dumping on the ground last year.

The County Landfill is closed until further notice. The Landfill is, however, accepting metal ONLY. Please call the sanitation office at 870-460-6293 before going to the landfill. This pertains to the County landfill only.
For any additional questions, please do not hesitate to call.

Drew County EHC Awards Academic Scholarships

In a typical year, Drew County Extension Homemakers Clubs will award either a local graduating senior entering UAM or student currently studying there an academic scholarship, but 2020 has not been a typical year. In late spring when the EHC Scholarship Committee called for applications, local students had already been sent home to learn remotely. They struggled to compile the necessary documents and signatures which EHC requires for the scholarship application, and EHC extended their deadline to encourage students to complete the applications.

In the end, EHC received the strongest group of applications the scholarship committee has ever seen. The number of bright and promising young people in our community presented an exciting challenge. Choosing just one from among them to receive the scholarship seemed an impossible task. The committee could see that the viral pandemic has resulted in ever-growing monetary need among the families of young people seeking an education. Read the rest of this entry »
