Alicia Marshall, age 40, was arrested by MPD Officers after responding to a call on North Cooper Street. Once on scene, it was discovered by officers that Marshall was in possession of methamphetamine. She was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Two McGehee residents are facing felony charges after the couple was arrested by MPD for attempting to steal catalytic converters at the former Monticello National Guard Armory. The arrests occurred early Monday morning. (more…)

Around 6 PM, Sunday evening, the Monticello Police Department asked for the public’s help in locating a missing person, who was last seen on 425 N. in Monticello.

The female was safely recovered in Pine Bluff approximately three hours later.

Before completing her term as Attorney General to become Lt. Governor, Leslie Rutledge named “officers of the year” for all 75 Arkansas Counties.

What is unique is that in neighboring counties in Southeast Arkansas, a father and son received the honor.

Tyler Grant, the son, is an Arkansas State Trooper, based in Drew County. He had previously served in law-enforcement as a Drew County Sheriffs Deputy.

Mitch Grant, the father, was a career Arkansas State Trooper, achieving the rank of senior, corporal, and was elected Desha County Sheriff, to begin his term in 2023.

Minutes after 8 PM, Thursday night, Monticello, Firefighters, along with MPD and DCSO officers responded to the report of a “generator fire“ at the county detention facility (jail).

Upon their arrival, the generator was running, but an automatic transfer switch was found to be the cause of the smoke.

All inmates were safe and secure during the event.

Carlos was raised in New York City where he graduated from high school. After graduation, Garcia enlisted in the US Army where he diligently worked his way up the infantry ranks, traveling to many different countries while learning important leadership, and lifeskills from his experiences and superiors.

In the late 1990’s, Carlos was stationed in Fort Campbell, KY, and assigned as a unit trainer for the National Guard unit in Warren. It was during this time that he began to pursue his interest in Law Enforcement by first joining the Drew County Auxiliary and eventually working as a part-time deputy for Drew County. Around 8 AM this morning, a resident and neighbor in the area of the HWY 425 furniture store between Monticello and Star City checked on a “old house“ located about 100 yards behind the store, and located a person believed to be the missing 23 year old Monticello female. (more…)

The 60-year-old man, who is suspected in the arson of the business, has passed away from burns and injuries, sustained in the fire. (more…)

Around 9 PM, Wednesday evening, a Wilmar man was seriously wounded, when he was shot, near Johnson Street, in Wilmar.

The victim was transported by ambulance to a hospital, north of here, where his injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The sheriffs department is asking for any information the public may have about a potential suspect or vehicles in the area. Please call 367-6211, if you have any information.

According to Monticello Police Chief Jason Akers, the City of Monticello has received a grant for $32,773.38 from the Arkansas Department of Public Safety for the purchase of new Kevlar vests and vest carriers for the entire Monticello Police Department. (more…)
