Frank Spain Files Unopposed For Prosecuting Attorney

Frank SpainChief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Frank Spain recently announced his candidacy for Prosecuting Attorney for Ashley, Bradley, Chicot, Desha, and Drew Counties. 

The reminder of this article was taken from his political announcement, which would have been released if another candidate had filed against him.

When election filing ended Tuesday, the unopposed Spain earned the right to serve as the next 10 Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney. (more…)

Heroin Conviction Sends California Man to Prison for 8 Years

HeroinStephen Thomas JonesOn March 9, 2021, Stephen Thomas Jones, believed to be a native of California was arrested at a local business in Monticello, and charged with multiple counts of possession with intent to deliver narcotics, including heroin and meth. Reggie’s Responds to Child Locked in Car

Around 7 AM, MPD received a phone call about an infant locked in a vehicle.

Reggies Lock & Key, associated with Reggie‘s Wrecker, responded immediately, unlocking the car, reuniting the child and its parents.

Many times, when you see a wrecker service, the nature of their job is not appreciated.

Other times, it seems like “Reggie’s to the Rescue.”

Confused/Confusing Railroad Signals

During school traffic, the southbound railroad signals on Highway 425, near the Highway 278 intersection were warning of trains crossing, even though no trains were in the area.

MPD helped direct traffic, until this situation resolved itself.

Arkansas Midland Railroad crews were on their way, to repair any issues that may have affected the situation.

Missing Crossett Lady Found Safe

MPD Statement on School Threat

MPD“We were made aware earlier this morning and are working with the school administration and staff to investigate this incident.

The school administration has made the decision to remain in session and we support their assessment of the facts and this decision.
MPD has multiple officers in various capacities on and around school facilities and will continue to work with MSD staff to investigate and monitor this situation until it is resolved”. MOD Chief Jason Akers.

Regional Jail Could Become Drew County Jail, with 300 Federal & 200 State Inmates- Video

Judge Akin said that if this is to take place, it will depend totally on federal prisoners.

Akin added it will not be run by LaSalle, they would only be consultants. The new jail will be supervised by the Drew County Sherriff.

Expectations could include 100+ employees,
$1.6 million county profit during the first 3-5 year contract,
300 federal prisoners
200 state prisoners
100 local prisoners.
