DCES Spelling Bee Winners

imageThe Drew Central Elementary fourth grade students participated in an Arkansas Words Spelling Bee. This bee was a part of the Arkansas History Unit. The students spent a week practicing and learning to spell words like Arkansans, Ouachita River, & many more. These three students were the overall winners for fourth grade.

Memorial Day Fire Destroys Mobile Home

imageMonticello firefighters were paged out Memorial Day afternoon to Florence Road, where a mobile home was engulfed in flames.

Sources at the scene said no one was home at the time of the fire,  which fully engulfed the residence.

Local Soldier Takes Part in NASCAR Memorial Day Tribute

imageimageUS Army Specialist Nick Deaton, of Monticello, was selected as 1 of 150 soldiers at Fort Bragg North Carolina to participate in the opening ceremonies at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca Cola 600 NASCAR race.

Spc Deaton was holding the giant American Flag along with his fellow soldiers,  holding the bottom corner of the flag under the stars.  Spc Deaton is stationed at the 82nd Airborne unit as an airborne infantry scout.

Nick is a 2012 graduate of Monticello High School and the son of Police Chief Eddy Deaton and Trish Deaton and DeWayne and DD Burchfield.

Lions Club Provides Pre-K Eye Screening to 90+ Children
